There are many similar deceptive websites that are designed to trick their visitors into downloading and installing some potentially unwanted application. Some examples are peachtrackereu[.]com, moderation-support[.]network and appleconnect.safellk[.]com. It is common that they are disguised as official Apple pages, however, none of the actual Apple pages have anything to do with those deceptive sites.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

It is common for PUAs to be offered in download and/or installation setups of other, mainly free programs. Usually unwanted offers can be declined via "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual", or other settings, or by unticking certain checkboxes. Although, not all users change those settings when they download and/or install programs ant that is how they allow for included app (or apps) to be downloaded and/or installed too. This method to distribute PUAs is called "bundling". Sometimes users unintentionally download and/or install unwanted apps by clicking deceptive advertisements that are designed to execute certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks like torrent clients, eMule, questionable websites, etc., should not be used neither to download or install any apps. It is advisable to use only official websites and direct links for that. Download and/or installation setups that have "Custom", "Advanced" (or other settings) should be always checked for unwanted offers, those offers should be declined before finishing downloads and installations. Advertisements on pages related to pornography, gambling, adult dating or other shady sites should not be clicked. Quite often those ads are designed to open untrustworthy pages, or even download, or install unwanted apps. Also, there should not be suspicious applications (extensions, plug-ins or add-ons) installed on a web browser should or apps of this kind installed on the operating system/computer. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
