Streaming Madness browser hijacker removal instructions

What is Streaming Madness?

Streaming Madness is a piece of rogue software, advertised as a tool for easy access to free Movie and TV streaming services. However, it operates as a browser hijacker - makes modifications to browser settings to promote the info-search.page illegitimate search engine. Additionally, Streaming Madness spies on users' browsing habits. Due to the questionable techniques used to distribute browser hijackers, they are also classified as PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications).

info-search.page browser hijacker

Browser hijackers primarily target popular browsers with large user bases. This software assigns the addresses of illegitimate web searchers (e.g., info-search.page) as browsers' homepage, default search engine, and new tab/window URLs. These changes may appear minor, but they seriously affected the browsing experience and are difficult to undo. To elaborate, with Streaming Madness installed: new browser tabs/windows opened and web searches done via the URL bar - redirect to info-search.page. Fake search engines rarely can provide search results, so they redirect (or cause redirection chains leading) to Yahoo, Bing, Google, and other legitimate ones. This applies to the info-search.page web searcher as well; it redirects to the Yahoo (search.yahoo.com) search engine.

Furthermore, due to how browser hijackers ensure persistence - it is impossible to recover an affected browser. This dubious software can reset any changes users attempt to make to their browsers. Alternatively, browser hijackers can restrict/deny access to the browsers' settings outright. Therefore, to stop redirects to info-search.page - it is necessary to remove Streaming Madness.

What is more, Streaming Madness has data tracking abilities, which is typical of browser hijackers. Information of interest includes: browsing and search engine histories, IP addresses, geolocations, and even personally identifiable details. The collected data is then shared with and/or sold to third-parties (potentially, cyber criminals). In summary, presence of data-tracking software on browsers/systems can result in severe privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft. To protect device and user safety, all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be eliminated immediately upon detection.

SearchConverterNetPackage Tracker ExpressPDFConverterSearchPro - are some examples of browser hijackers. They appear ordinary and harmless. Users are lured into download/installation with various "useful" functionalities. However, the advertised features are usually nonoperational. In fact, this is true of practically all PUAs. The sole purpose of unwanted apps is to generate profit at user expense; hence, functionality and user safety are irrelevant. PUAs are designed to hijack browsers, cause redirects, deliver intrusive advertisement campaigns (adware), and collect private data.

How did Streaming Madness install on my computer?

Select PUAs (e.g., Streaming Madness) have "official" promotional/download websites. These applications are more commonly downloaded/installed together with other software. This deceptive marketing technique of packing regular programs with unwanted or malicious additions. By rushing through download/installation processes (e.g., by skipping steps and sections, etc.) - users risk inadvertently allowing bundled content into their devices. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well; once clicked on, they can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is important to research software before download/installation and/or purchase. In addition, only official and trustworthy download sources must be used. Dubious download channels (e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting sites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, and other third-party downloaders) - often offer harmful and/or bundled content. When downloading/installing, it is advised to read terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive adverts appear legitimate; however, the ads redirect to various unreliable and questionable webpages (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and so forth). Should users encounter such advertisements and/or redirects, they must check their devices and remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay. If your computer is already infected with Streaming Madness, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
