Quick Recipes browser hijacker removal instructions
What is Quick Recipes?
Apps like Quick Recipes should never be downloaded or installed. They are classified as browser hijackers because they alter the browser's settings to promote some fake search engine and can be designed to collect browsing data and (or) sensitive information. Quick Recipes promotes the quickrecipessearch-serp.com address. It is noteworthy that most users download, install browser hijackers/apps like Quick Recipes unknowingly. Therefore, apps of this type are called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Typically, browser hijackers promote fake search engines (their addresses). Although, they can be used to promote other websites as well. In one way or another, their main goal is to force users to visit certain pages. As a rule, apps of this type modify the browser' settings such as the address of a default search engine, homepage, and new tab. Therefore, a hijacked browser opens a specific address each time its user opens a new window, tab, or enters a search query into the URL bar. Quick Recipes changes the aforementioned settings to quickrecipessearch-serp.com. This address redirects visitors/users to search.yahoo.com, or quickrecipessearch-serp.com generates its own search results. It is important to mention that fake search engines like quickrecipessearch-serp.com often generate results that contain links to potentially malicious sites, also, they show questionable ads. Usually, the address like quickrecipessearch-serp.com can be removed from the settings of a hijacked browser only when an app like Quick Recipes app is no longer installed on the browser.
One more reason to get rid of Quick Recipes or any other installed browser hijacker is that it could be designed to function as a data collector and gather addresses of visited pages, IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, other browsing data, or even sensitive information. In most cases, browser hijackers collect information so that their developers could use it for marketing purposes. Sometimes developers sell collected data to third parties (potentially cybercriminals), or they monetize it in other ways. Therefore, neither Quick Recipes no any other app of this type should ever be installed on a browser (or the operating system).

Some more examples of apps that promote a specific fake search engine (or other address) are HDSportsSearch, DirectSportSearch, and PDFConverterSearchApp. It is worthwhile to mention that most browser hijackers are advertised as useful, legitimate apps: they are supposed to include some features, provide quick access to certain pages, generate accurate results, etc. Although, in reality, most of them are useless to their users/their main purpose is to generate revenue for their developers.
How did Quick Recipes install on my computer?
There are some potentially unwanted apps that are available for download on their "official" websites. Nevertheless, most users do not download or install them intentionally. In some cases, users cause unwanted downloads, installations by clicking deceptive advertisements that are capable or running certain scripts. However, it is more common that users download, install PUAs when these apps are bundled with other, usually free software. As a rule, bundled applications can be opted out using "Custom", "Advanced", or other settings (or checkboxes) that downloaders, installers have. Users download or install bundled PUAs when they leave the aforementioned setting unchanged (when they do not decline unwanted offers).
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is strongly advisable not to use third-party downloaders (or installers), Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule, etc.), questionable, unofficial pages, etc., as tools, sources for downloading or installing applications. Apps should be downloaded only from official, trustworthy pages and via direct links. Also, it is recommended to check download and installation setups for "Advanced", "Custom" or other settings and see if they mention any unwanted offers. Additionally, it is advisable not to trust advertisements on questionable pages. It is because those ads could be designed to promote other sites of this kind or cause unwanted downloads, or even installations. Unwanted, unknown extensions, plug-ins, or add-ons that are already installed on a browser should be removed. The same should be done with apps of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with Quick Recipes, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
