How to remove apps force-opening the worldactualstories.com site?

Also Known As: worldactualstories.com pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is worldactualstories[.]com?

Worldactualstories[.]com is an untrustworthy website sharing many common traits with mahaidroagra.com, attohearally.biz, pesoaniz.com, and thousands of others. Visitors to this page are presented with questionable material and/or redirected to different unreliable and malicious sites.

Websites of this kind are seldom accessed unintentionally; most users get redirected to them by intrusive advertisements or installed PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications). This software can infiltrate systems without explicit permission; hence, users may be unaware of its presence. PUAs are designed to force-open sites, run intrusive advert campaigns, and collect browsing-related data.

worldactualstories[.]com pop-up redirects

When accessed, the first thing worldactualstories[.]com does is check the visitor's IP (Internet Protocol) addresses to learn their geolocation. This information determines the webpage's further course of action.

In other words, whether visitors are presented with dubious content and/or get redirected elsewhere - depends on their IP addresses/ geolocations. Furthermore, rogue websites typically use deceptive statements or visuals to lure users into allowing their browser notifications.

This is true of worldactualstories[.]com as well. It instructs to "Click the Allow button to subscribe to the push notifications and continue watching", thereby implying that it must be done to resume watching/streaming online video content.

Should the notifications be enabled, worldactualstories[.]com will start delivering intrusive advertisement campaigns. The delivered adverts are more than just a nuisance, they also pose a threat to device and user safety.

Once clicked on, intrusive ads redirect to various untrustworthy/malicious sites, and some can download/install software (e.g., PUAs) stealthily. PUAs can have heinous functionalities, which can be in different combinations.

For example, these apps can cause redirects and/or deliver intrusive advert campaigns. What is more, PUAs usually have data tracking abilities.

They record browsing activity (URLs visited, webpages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather vulnerable information inferred from it (IP addresses/ geolocations, personally identifiable details, etc.). The collected data is then shared with and/or sold to third-parties (potentially, cyber criminals).

To summarize, the presence of unwanted software on devices can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft. Therefore, it is highly recommended to eliminate all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

PUAs usually appear legitimate and harmless. Users are enticed into download/installation and/or purchase with offers of various features. However, despite how "useful" the functions may sound - they are rarely operational.

The sole aim of PUAs is to generate revenue for the developers; hence, functionality and user safety are irrelevant. PUAs operate by causing redirects, running intrusive ad campaigns, and collecting private information.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs can be downloaded/installed together with other programs. "Bundling" is the name of this false marketing technique - packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions. These supplements can be hidden within the "Custom/Advanced" download/installation settings or left unmentioned entirely.

Hence, by rushing through download/installation processes (e.g., ignoring terms, skipping steps, using "Easy/Express" settings, etc.) - users risk inadvertently allowing bundled content into their devices. Some PUAs can have "official" promotional/download pages. Upon being clicked, intrusive ads can execute scripts to make downloads/installations without user consent.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is advised to research software before download/installation and/or purchase. Furthermore, only official and verified download channels must be used.

Untrustworthy download sources, e.g., Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, unofficial and free file-hosting websites, and other third-party downloaders - commonly offer bundled and/or harmful content. When downloading/installing, it is recommended to read terms, study available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out from supplementary apps, tools, features, and other additions.

It is just as important to exercise caution when browsing. Intrusive adverts appear ordinary and innocuous; however, they redirect to various unreliable and questionable webpages (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.). Should users encounter advertisements and/or redirects of this kind, they must check their devices and immediately remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
