How to uninstall software force-opening the 1music-online.me website?

Also Known As: 1music-online.me pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is 1music-online[.]me?

1music-online[.]me is a rogue website sharing many similarities with theactualstories.com, cousiness.website, profitsurvey365.online, and thousands of others. Visitors to this site are presented with questionable content and/or redirected to different untrustworthy/malicious webpages.

Rogue sites are rarely entered intentionally; most users get redirected to them by intrusive adverts or PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications) already installed onto their devices. This software can infiltrate systems without user permission. PUAs are designed to force-open websites, run intrusive advert campaigns, and collect browsing-related data.

1music-online[.]me pop-up redirects

1music-online[.]me in detail

The first thing 1music-online[.]me does is check the visitors' IP addresses in order to learn their geolocations. This information determines the webpage's further course of action. To elaborate, whether visitors are presented dubious material and/or get redirected elsewhere - depends on their geolocations.

Furthermore, most rogue sites use clickbait, fake CAPTCHA verification, and other deceptive statements/content to trick users into allowing their browser notifications. This applies to 1music-online[.]me as well; it states - "Can't play this video! Perhaps your browser doesn't allow video playback. Please click the Allow button to watch the video.". Should visitors enable the notifications, 1music-online[.]me will start running intrusive advertisement campaigns. Once clicked on, intrusive adverts redirect to various untrustworthy/malicious sites, and some can download/install software (e.g., PUAs) stealthily.

How do potentially unwanted applications operate?

PUAs can have different functions, which can be in varied combinations. For example, these apps can cause redirects and/or deliver intrusive ad campaigns. What is more, PUAs usually have data tracking abilities. They record browsing activity (visited URLs, viewed webpages, searched queries, etc.) and collect sensitive information extracted from it (IP addresses/ geolocations, personally identifiable details, etc.). PUA developers monetize the gathered data by sharing it with and/or selling it to third-parties (potentially, cyber criminals).

To summarize, the presence of unwanted software on devices can lead to system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft. Therefore, it is strongly advised to eliminate all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

Potentially unwanted applications in general

PUAs appear legitimate and innocuous. Users are enticed into download/installation and/or purchase with offers of various "handy" functionalities. However, the features seldom work as promised, and in most cases - they are utterly nonoperational. The sole aim of unwanted apps is to generate revenue for the developers; hence, functionality and user safety are irrelevant. PUAs operate by force-opening pages, running intrusive advert campaigns, and gathering private and vulnerable information.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs can be downloaded/installed alongside other programs. "Bundling" is the term used to define this false marketing technique of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions. Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., ignored terms, skipped steps and sections, etc.) increase the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled content into the device.

Intrusive adverts are used to spread PUAs as well. Upon being clicked, these ads can execute scrips to make downloads/installations without user consent. PUAs may also have "official" promotional/download websites.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is advised to research software before download/installation and/or purchase. Additionally, all downloads must be performed from official and verified sources. Untrustworthy download channels, e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting (freeware) sites, P2P sharing networks (Torrent clients, Gnutella, eMule, etc.), and other third-party downloaders - often offer bundled and/or harmful content. When downloading/installing, it is recommended to read terms, explore possible options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings, and opt-out from supplementary apps, tools, features, and so on.

Intrusive advertisements appear legitimate; however, they redirect to various unreliable and questionable websites (e.g., adult-dating, pornography, gambling, and many others). In case of encounters with such adverts and/or redirects, the system must be checked and all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
