Also Known As: GrooveDock Virus
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is GrooveDock?

Created by SuperWeb LLC, GrooveDock is a potentially unwanted application claiming to improve the quality of users' Internet browsing experience by displaying website trust ratings, websites containing related content, enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and adding other useful functionality.

Although GrooveDock may seem a legitimate browser extension, be aware that it is categorized as adware. GrooveDock is compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome and uses a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install on these browsers without users' consent.

Following successful infiltration, GrooveDock monitors users' Internet browsing activity by recording various hardware and software information such as IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, URLs visited, search queries entered, pages viewed, and other similar information.

Furthermore, it generates intrusive online advertisements including search, banner, text-link, transitional, interstitial, and full page ads.

Having adware such as GrooveDock installed on your computer may lead to serious privacy issues, identity theft, or malware infections. The developers of this browser add-on (SuperWeb LLC) have released over one hundred rogue browser extensions identical to GrooveDock. Examples include RambleRoam, Yula, and Traxxen.

This company releases identical browser plug-ins under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus programs. Neither GrooveDock, nor any other of these browser extensions add any true value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements.

Most potentially unwanted applications similar to GrooveDock are distributed via 'download managers' within freeware download websites such as soft32.com, softonic.com, download.com, and many others. These websites use download managers to monetize their free services since they offer installation of advertised browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software.

Thus, careless download and installation of freeware can lead to adware or malware infections. To prevent installation of GrooveDock, or other similar adware, pay close attention during the download of free software and click the 'Decline' button when installation of additional applications is offered.

If you are installing downloaded software, choose the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Regular' or 'Quick' - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for stealth installation along with the chosen software, and you will be able to decline them.

Users who have already installed GrooveDock and observe "Ads by GrooveDock", "Powered by GrooveDock", and "GrooveDock Deals" advertisements when surfing the Internet, should follow this removal guide to remove GrooveDock adware from their Internet browsers.
