What is PayLessWizard?
Developed by a company called Engaging Apps, PayLessWizard is a potentially unwanted application claiming to save time and money by enabling comparison shopping, displaying discounts/special deals on shopping websites, and providing other useful functionality.
Although this browser extension may seem legitimate, be aware that PayLessWizard is considered to be adware since it employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install on browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, PayLessWizard generates various intrusive online advertisements including interstitial, text-link, banner, pop-up, sponsored link, and targeted video ads. There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, PayLessWizard continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording various information, which may be personally identifiable. For example: IP addresses, geo-locations, cookies, search queries entered, URLs visited, pages viewed, and other similar details.
This behavior may result in serious privacy issues or identity theft, and therefore, Internet users are advised to eliminate PayLessWizard from their Internet browsers. During research, PayLessWizard was distributed via fake downloads (Java updates, browser updates, etc.) and free software 'download managers' on freeware download websites.
These browser extensions are useless for the user. Commonly, users install adware such as PayLessWizard when downloading free software via small programs called download managers on freeware download websites (such as soft32.com, download.com, and softonic.com)
These websites employ download clients to monetize their free services by offering installation of promoted, 'virus-free' browser plug-ins together with the chosen software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware risks computer infection with adware or malware.
To prevent installation of PayLessWizard or other potentially unwanted applications, be attentive when downloading free software and never accept installation of any additional applications offered.
If you are installing downloaded applications, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal any hidden applications in the setup and allow you to remove them from the installation list.
If you have already installed PayLessWizard and observe "Ads by PayLessWizard" advertisements when browsing the Internet, follow this removal guide to eliminate the extension from your Internet browsers.
