Movie Mode virus removal instructions

What is Movie Mode?

Developed by GenTechnologies LLC, Movie Mode is a rogue browser extension claiming to enhance users' Internet browsing experience by adding useful video-playing related browser functions. Although this functionality may seem legitimate, be aware that Movie Mode is categorized as a potentially unwanted application or adware, since this rogue browser add-on employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' permission. Following successful infiltration on these browsers, Movie Mode adware generates intrusive online advertisements and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.

Movie Mode virus

These intrusive online advertisements include text-link, banner, in-text, interstitial, and pop-up ads. It is highly probable that clicking these advertisements will cause high-risk adware or malware infections. In addition, this potentially unwanted application continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various information, which may be personally identifiable, such as operating systems, browser types, URLs visited, pages viewed, cookies, IP addresses, geo-locations, unique identifier numbers, and other similar details. This behavior may result in serious privacy issues as well as identity theft, and for this reason, you are strongly advised to eliminate Movie Mode from your Internet browsers.

There are many rogue browser plug-ins similar to Movie Mode including, for example, Radsteroids, Spy Lookout, Zombie Alert, etc. None of these browser extensions add any real value for users (instead, they are presented with intrusive ads). Most users infect their computers with adware such as this during download of free software via 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, amongst many others. These websites employ these small download programs (download managers) to monetize their free services by providing installation of promoted 'virus-free' browser add-ons together with the chosen free software. Thus, careless download and installation of free software often results in adware or malware infections. This situation can be prevented by expressing caution during the download of free software and never accepting installation of any additional programs offered. When installing downloaded software, select the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Regular' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them. Internet users who have installed Movie Mode adware should follow this removal guide to uninstall the plug-in from their Internet browsers.
