What is FlashMall?
The FlashMall rogue browser extension installs on Internet browsers using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' and is, therefore, classed as adware.
Bundling is a way to stealthily install third-party applications together with chosen apps, and for this reason, users often inadvertently install this rogue plug-in together with free software downloadable on freeware download websites.
After infiltration on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox), FlashMall generates intrusive online advertisements. When clicked, most of these ads redirect to bogus websites, thus exposing your computer to infection.
Furthermore, FlashMall collects various software and hardware information (for example, IP addresses, URLs visited, and pages viewed), which can include personally identifiable details. Information tracking may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. FlashMall is similar to other regular adware of its type.
For example, Price Expert, Pricezilla, Price Wagon, and Price Turtle also claim to provide identical features, however, none (including FlashMall) provide any real value - they are developed to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing data with third parties. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate FlashMall from your system immediately.
Today, most adware-type applications are distributed using small 'download programs' (also called 'installers', 'download managers', 'download clients', etc.) on freeware download websites. Download programs offer installation of third-party apps together with the chosen software/apps, to monetize these websites' free services and traffic.
Although promoted apps such as FlashMall are described as legitimate, reckless download and installation often results in adware or malware infections. This situation can be avoided by closely examining each step of the free software download procedure and clicking 'Decline' to any offers of additional app installation.
Furthermore, downloaded software should be installed using the 'Advanced' or "Custom' options - this will reveal any concealed applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed FlashMall, read the following instructions and remove this potentially unwanted program (PUP) from your system.
