Search.internetspeedpilot.com Redirect

Also Known As: Internet Speed Pilot browser hijacker
Damage level: Medium

What is search.internetspeedpilot.com?

Internet Speed Pilot is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that supposedly allows users to check their Internet speed. This functionality may appear legitimate and useful, however, Internet Speed Pilot often infiltrates systems without users’ consent.

Furthermore, it hijacks web browsers, delivers intrusive online advertisements, and continually records various information relating to users' web browsing activity. For these reasons, Internet Speed Pilot is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.

search.internetspeedpilot.com browser hijacker

Following infiltration, Internet Speed Pilot hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, assigning the new tab URL/homepage/default search engine options to search.internetspeedpilot.com. Users are unable to revert these changes, since Internet Speed Pilot automatically reassigns any user attempts to change them.

Thus, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible. For this reason, users continually encounter unwanted browser redirects, significantly diminishing the web browsing experience. Furthermore, Internet Speed Pilot delivers various advertisements that conceal underlying content of visited websites.

Some redirect to malicious websites - clicking them risks further computer infections. Another downside of Internet Speed Pilot is information tracking. This PUP gathers search queries entered into search engines, websites visited, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, and other similar information.

Note that, although this data may seem insignificant, it might contain personally identifiable details. SaferBrowser (developers of Internet Speed Pilot) share this collected information with third parties who misuse personal data to generate revenue. Thus, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues.

If you feel that Internet Speed Pilot has infiltrated the system without your consent, uninstall this PUP and never visit search.internetspeedpilot.com again.

SaferBrowser has developed dozens of identical potentially unwanted programs. Although Internet Speed Pilot, Email Enhanced, Watch Your TV Shows Now, and other SaferBrowser's products offer different functionality, they have identical behavior.

Rather than providing any of the functions promised, these programs cause unwanted browser redirects, record private data, and deliver intrusive online advertisements. All SaferBrowser applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and deliver no real value for users.

How did search.internetspeedpilot.com install on my computer?

Research shows that Internet Speed Pilot is often distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of PUPs with regular (usually legitimate) software. Although this app has an official download website, many users install it inadvertently.

Developers know that many users do not express enough caution when downloading/installing software and intentionally hide all third party applications within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings of the download/installation processes. By skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of infection.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

There are two main steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, closely analyze each step of the download/installation processes using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Secondly, opt-out of all additionally-included programs and cancel all offers to download/install them.
