BestCleaner Unwanted Application

Also Known As: BestCleaner potentially unwanted program
Damage level: Medium

What is BestCleaner?

BestCleaner is a deceptive application that supposedly improves computer performance by cleaning various junk files. Initially, this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, BestCleaner often infiltrates systems without users' permission.

Furthermore, it is likely to gather information relating to Internet browsing activity. For these reasons, this app is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP).

BestCleaner unwanted application

Following infiltration, BestCleaner collects various information that might be personally identifiable (for example, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, computer specifications, etc.). The developers share this collected data with cooperating third party companies, who often misuse personal information to generate revenue.

Therefore, the presence of an information-tracking app such as BestCleaner on your system might lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly advise you to remove the BestCleaner PUP immediately. Data tracking is very common to adware-type applications, which generate various intrusive online advertisements.

These are delivered using a ‘virtual layer’ (a tool enabling display of third party graphical content on any site) and often conceal underlying content. Furthermore, the ads often redirect to malicious websites - thus, clicking them is risky and can result in various computer infections. All adware should be removed immediately.

BestCleanerer shares many similarities with hundreds of other potentially unwanted programs such as DiskPower, MaxPerforma, MyPC HealthCheck, and Win Tune Pro. These applications also offer a number of 'useful features'. In fact, potentially unwanted programs deliver little or no real value for regular users.

Their real and only purpose is to generate revenue for the developers. Programs such as BestCleaner collect personally identifiable information (which is later sold to third parties), deliver intrusive online advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" [PPC] advertising model), and cause unwanted browser redirects.

How did BestCleaner install on my computer?

This PUP is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, developers also distribute BestCleaner using a deceptive software marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of third party applications with regular software. Users often rush the download/installation processes and skip most/all steps.

Aware of this, developers hide BestCleaner within the "Custom/Advanced" settings. Thus, skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of bogus programs, such as BestCleaner.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Potentially unwanted programs are distributed using the bundling method. Therefore, closely analyze each step of the download/installation processes using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Furthermore, cancel all additionally-included programs and decline all offers to download/install them.
