Also Known As: InternetSpeedRadar browser hijacker

What is hp.myway.com?

InternetSpeedRadar is a deceptive application that supposedly allows users to test their Internet performance. On initial inspection, this app may seem legitimate and useful, however, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.

There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without consent; 2) modification of web browser settings, and; 3) tracking of users' Internet browsing activity.

hp.myway.com browser hijacker

Following infiltration, InternetSpeedRadar hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, modifying the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options by assigning them to hp.myway.com. These changes may seem insignificant, however, users are unable to revert them.

Research shows that InternetSpeedRadar reassigns browser settings when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are forced to visit hp.myway.com when they search via the URL bar or simply open a new browser tab. This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience.

Another downside is information tracking. InternetSpeedRadar records IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar information relating to web browsing activity.

This collected data might contain personal details that InternetSpeedRadar's developers (Mindspark Interactive Network) share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse personal details to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of a data-tracking app can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.

We strongly recommend that you uninstall the InternetSpeedRadar browser hijacker immediately.

There are dozens of browser-hijacking applications developed by Mindspark Interactive Network, all of which are identical. Although apps such as CinematicFanatic, OnlineWorkSuite, DirectionsOnline, and other products from this company, offer different functionality, they have identical behavior.

The only purpose of PUPs such as InternetSpeedRadar is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value. Browser-hijacking applications cause unwanted redirects and continually gather user-system information (which is later sold to third parties).

How did InternetSpeedRadar install on my computer?

InternetSpeedRadar is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, developers also promote it by employing a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", since they know that users often rush and skip most download/installation steps. Therefore, bundled apps are hidden within the "Custom/Advanced" settings.

Skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of rogue applications such as InternetSpeedRadar.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

There are two simple steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software. Select the "Custom/Advanced" settings and closely analyze each step. Secondly, decline offers to download/install additional applications and opt-out of those already included.
