Starofferz.com redirect removal instructions
What is starofferz.com?
Identical to alldownloads.hapc.gdn, 1.admetic.com, and many others, starofferz.com is a deceptive website that redirects users to various other malicious sites. Users often visit starofferz.com inadvertently - they are redirected by rogue applications that infiltrate systems without permission (the "bundling" method). As well as causing redirects, these potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) deliver intrusive online advertisements and continually gather various user-system information.
To deliver intrusive advertisements, PUPs employ a "virtual layer" - a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, pop-ups, coupons, banners, and other displayed ads often conceal underlying web content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. In addition, some lead to malicious websites - clicking them is risky and might result in high-risk adware or malware infections. The same tool is also used to cause redirects. PUPs open a new browsing window and immediately redirect users to starofferz.com, which, in turn, redirects users to other dubious websites containing malicious content. This can result in various computer infections. Furthermore, PUPs gather various information that may be personally identifiable, including (but not limited to) Internet Protocol addresses, URLs visited, search queries, and pages viewed. PUP developers share this collected information with third parties who misuse private data to generate revenue. The presence of information-tracking apps can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft and, thus, these programs should be uninstalled immediately.
The Internet is full of PUPs (including Tigers Deal, Prime Updater, MediaPlayAir, etc.) that offer 'useful features'. Bear in mind, however, that they are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Claims to enable useful functionality are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. In fact, PUPs cause unwanted redirects, deliver intrusive advertisements, and record various user-system information. They deliver no significant value for regular users.
How did adware install on my computer?
As mentioned above, criminals proliferate PUPs by employing a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of third party applications with regular software/apps. Developers know that users often rush the download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, they hide bundled programs within the "Custom/Advanced" settings. Skipping this section can lead to inadvertent installation of PUPs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of PUPs can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, closely analyze each download/installation step using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Secondly, decline offers to download/install additional applications and cancel those already included. The key to computer safety is caution.
