AVBoost removal instructions
What is AVBoost?
Developed by WeMonetize, AVBoost is a deceptive application that supposedly allows users to modify various computer settings (volume, screen brightness, etc.) On initial inspection, AVBoost may appear legitimate and useful, however, this app usually infiltrates systems without consent. In addition, it causes unwanted redirects, delivers intrusive online advertisements, and continually gathers various user-system information. For these reasons, AVBoost is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
AVBoost employs "virtual layer" to generate various advertisements (pop-up, coupons, banners, etc.) and cause redirects. The virtual layer is a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, displayed ads often conceal underlying website content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. These ads can lead to malicious websites and, therefore, even accidental clicks might result in high-risk adware or malware infections. AVBoost also uses the virtual layer to cause redirects to other websites that might contain malicious content. These redirects can lead to various computer infections. Another downside is information tracking. AVBoost adware continually gathers website URLs visited, search queries, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, and other similar information relating to browsing activity. The collected information might contain personal details that AVBoost developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private data to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of an information-tracking app such as AVBoost can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you should uninstall AVBoost adware immediately.
The Internet is full of adware-type applications that have similar characteristics to AVBoost including Tigers Deal, MediaPlayAir, and WebDiscover - these are just some examples from many. All claim to enhance the browsing experience in some way, however, offers to provide 'useful functionality' are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. Adware-type applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Apps such as AVBoost simply cause unwanted redirects, deliver intrusive online advertisements, and record user-system information.
How did AVBoost install on my computer?
AVBoost is distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and, therefore, AVBoost is often installed inadvertently without consent. Developers know that users often rush the download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, they hide bundled apps within the "Custom/Advanced" settings. By skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
PUPs are distributed using the "bundling" method. Therefore, never rush the download or installation processes. Select the "Custom/Advanced" settings, analyze each step, and decline offers to download/install additional applications.
