What is search.searchquicks.com?

Quick Search is a deceptive application that falsely claims to enhance users' Internet browsing experience by granting access to a "high-quality" Internet search engine, and allowing them search for "their favorite websites". Judging on appearance alone, Quick Search may seem legitimate and useful, however, this potentially unwanted program (PUP) usually infiltrates systems without permission and, furthermore, collects various information. Quick Search is categorized as a browser hijacker - a form of unwanted software that modifies Internet browser options without users’ permission.

search.searchquicks.com browser hijacker

Immediately after infiltration, Quick Search hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, stealthily modifying the default search engine, new tab URL, and homepage options by assigning them to search.searchquicks.com. Although these changes may seem insignificant, users are unable to revert them. Quick Search continues to reassign browser options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible. Quick Search is essentially used to deceptively build traffic for search.searchquicks.com - users are forced to visit this site when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar. This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience. As mentioned above, Quick Search (and search.searchquicks.com) continually records various user-system information relating to Internet browsing activity. Developers collect IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, keystrokes, and other similar data (which might contain personal details) to generate revenue - they sell it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). This puts your privacy and Internet browsing safety at risk. This behavior is very common to browser-hijacking applications, however, some are also designed to mine cryptocurrency or run other unwanted processes in the background. In other words, potentially unwanted programs misuse resources, thereby significantly reducing system performance. If you encounter redirects to search.searchquicks.com, immediately eliminate the Quick Search browser hijacker and never visit this site again.

The Internet is full of browser-hijacking applications that share similarities with Quick Search. For instance, MojoTab, Microcosm, Movies Tab, and many others. Although Quick Search and the above apps offer different functionality, all have identical behavior. Their only purpose is to generate revenue for the developers. Claims to provide useful functions are merely attempts to trick users to install. Only a small fraction of PUPs provide any real value - the vast majority are useless. In most cases, potentially unwanted programs pose a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety. Furthermore, fake search engines might generate false search results and malicious ads (coupons, banners, etc.) These results and ads can lead to infectious content. Some "malvertising" ads execute scripts that download and install malware. Therefore, using fake Internet search engines is very risky.

How did search.searchquicks.com install on my computer?

Quick Search has an official download website, however, this PUP is also distributed using the aforementioned malicious ads, and via a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Due to lack of knowledge and careless behavior by many users, Quick Search often infiltrates systems without permission. "Bundling" is stealth installation of third party programs together with regular software/apps. Developers do not disclose these installations properly - they conceal "bundled" apps within the "Custom/Advanced" settings. Therefore, skipping download/installation steps and clicking ads, exposes systems to risk of various infections.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

To prevent installation of potentially unwanted programs, be very cautious when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software. Malicious ads seem genuine, however, once clicked, they redirect to various dubious websites (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.) If you encounter such ads, immediately eliminate all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins. Furthermore, closely analyze each download/installation step and decline all additionally-included programs. Criminals monetize third party downloaders/installers by promoting dubious apps (the "bundling" method). Therefore, we strongly advise you to avoid using such tools. The key to computer safety is caution.
