CoreTempApp Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is CoreTempApp?
CoreTempApp is a legitimate open-source application that allows users to monitor the current system temperature and view other computer component information. However, be aware that cyber criminals abuse this app in order to generate revenue.
They modify CoreTempApp's source code so that it would display of intrusive advertisements and track user's web browsing activity. Moreover modified versions typically infiltrate the system without asking for a permission. CoreTempApp basically becomes a potentially unwanted adware-type program (PUP).
Following infiltration, modified CoreTempApp delivers various intrusive advertisements, such as coupons, banners, pop-ups, and so on. These are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any visited website and often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
Furthermore, they might lead to malicious websites and execute scripts that stealthily download and install malware. Therefore, even a single accidental click can result in high-risk computer infections. Another important issue is information tracking. As with most of adware, CoreTempApp continually gathers information relating to browsing activity.
The data (IP addresses, search queries, URLs visited, pages viewed, etc.) typically includes personal information. Developers share the details with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing private information.
Therefore, information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If CoreTempApp has infiltrated your computer without your consent or you have downloaded it from a third-party source, we highly recommend to uninstall it.

There are dozens of adware-type applications that share similarities with CoreTempApp including Advanced Top, FAassist, and Powzip - these are just some examples from a long list.
Most offer "useful features", however, the only purpose of all adware is to generate revenue for the developers - claims to provide useful features are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.
Rather than giving any real value for regular users, apps such as CoreTempApp deliver intrusive ads and gather sensitive information, thereby posing a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.
How did CoreTempApp install on my computer?
CoreTempApp has an official promotion website, however, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behavior of many users, this PUP often infiltrates systems without permission. Research shows that developers proliferate this PUP using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
They hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes. Furthermore, many users rush these procedures and skip steps.
In addition, they click various advertisements without understanding the possible consequences. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent system infiltration by adware, be very cautious when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software. Intrusive advertisements may seem legitimate, but once clicked, redirect to dubious websites, such as gambling, adult dating, and so on. If you encounter these ads, immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins.
Furthermore, carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs and opt-out of all additionally-included programs. We strongly recommend that you avoid using third party download/installation tools, since developers monetize them by promoting PUPs.
Software should be downloaded from official sources only, using direct download links. The key to computer safety is caution. If your computer is already infected with CoreTempApp, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
