PC Backup 360 Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is PC Backup 360?
PCBackup360 is a dubious application that, according to its developers, allows users to create safe and secure backups online and access them anywhere and anytime. This may seem to be a useful tool, but PCBackup360 is categorized as potentially unwanted application (PUA).
Most PUAs are proliferated using the "bundling" method and, therefore, users often install them inadvertently (including PCBackup360).
PCBackup360 offers unlimited online backups for files. Users are required to first create an account, which is free (most potentially unwanted applications make such offers, in this case for free registration). Users are then encouraged to upgrade and pay for so-called 'full versions' for advanced features.
Do not trust apps that are bundled with other software or have been installed unintentionally, and certainly do not pay for full versions. These apps are often installed with other potentially unwanted applications. Therefore, it is likely that PCBackup360 was not the only app that was installed - another browser hijacker or adware is likely to have been installed as well.
We strongly recommend you to check the list of installed applications on your browser (and programs on your computer) and to uninstall all unwanted/unknown entries immediately.

Threat Type | PUP (potentially unwanted program), PUA (potentially unwanted application) |
Symptoms | A program that you don't recall installing suddenly appeared on your computer. New application is performing computer scans and displays warning messages about found issues. Asks for payment in order to eliminate the supposedly found errors. |

Damage | Monetary loss (unnecessary purchase of fake software), unwanted warning pop-ups, slow computer performance. |
Malware Removal (Windows) | To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner. |
The number of potentially unwanted applications like PCBackup360 is growing daily (other similar apps include SweepTools PC Cleaner, Cosmos System Care, Swift PC Optimizer, and so on). In most cases, developers promote them as 'useful', buy they deliver none of the functionality promised.
On the contrary, many PUAs are designed only to generate revenue by collecting data, causing unwanted redirects, and delivering ads.
How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?
PCBackup360 has an website and it can be downloaded from there, however, it is also promoted using "bundling" and an Adobe Flash Player setup. Therefore, it can often be installed accidentally. Bundling is a deceptive marketing method used to install PUAs together with other regular apps by hiding them in "Custom", "Advanced", and other settings.
Software developers often avoid disclosing information about the presence of bundled apps and users who do not study installations and skip steps are commonly tricked into installing applications such as PCBackup360. Allowing various PUAs to be installed can lead to even more serious problems such as privacy/browsing safety issues.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Avoid using third party software downloaders/installers, torrents, or other similar software to download your chosen software. Download using official, trustworthy sources, and direct links only. Do not skip installations steps without first checking "Custom"/"Advanced" settings.
Opt-out of all unwanted offers (potentially unwanted programs) and only then finish the installation. Be cautious when browsing the web, avoid clicking untrustworthy ads, especially when visiting dubious websites. It can be difficult to determine if an ad is legitimate, since developers invest time and money into design of their ads design.
If, however, you encounter ads that redirect you to untrustworthy websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating etc.), check your browser extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons for suspicious/unwanted entries and uninstall them. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
