Damage level: Medium

What is inspiranius[.]com?

inspiranius[.]com is a rogue site, similar to lesindingretne.info, prioritynotifications.com, dingboronhartal.pro, and others. It redirects users to other compromised and/or potentially harmful sites, which proliferate dubious content. Using social engineering tactics, inspiranius[.]com tricks users into enabling notifications.

Once these are enabled, it launches an intrusive ad campaign. This site is mostly accessed unintentionally, by way of redirection from other rogue sites (opened by intrusive ads) or by PUAs (potentially unwanted applications).

Note that inspiranius[.]com checks visitors' IP (Internet protocol) addresses to determine their geolocations, which dictates the next course of action: it can redirect users to different sites and/or begin feeding them with dubious content. Therefore, visiting inspiranius[.]com can lead to malicious content and serious system infections.

inspiranius[.]com pop-up redirects

This rogue site is mostly distributed by PUAs, which open new browser tabs/windows without users' consent and redirect them to inspiranius[.]com. Note, however, that this site can also be proliferated through various malicious advertisements. Both methods risk potential computer infections.

PUAs use a number of tools to enable third party content. In doing so, they deliver dubious, intrusive, and malicious advertisements such as pop-ups, banners, coupons, and others. These hamper the browsing experience by affecting browsing performance and visibility (by concealing underlying website content).

Clicking them can lead to serious safety issues. These ads can redirect users to dubious and hazardous sites, and even execute scripts that automatically (without users' consent) download/install other unwanted applications and/or malware (malicious software).

PUAs can also track data and resell it to third parties. Data of interest includes IP address, browsing and search engine history, personal details, and other information. This data can be sent to cyber criminals, potentially leading to computer infections, privacy issues, and even identity theft. Therefore, all PUAs should be removed immediately.

From a regular user's perspective, PUAs serve no positive purpose, however they may seem to be legitimate, functional, and useful software.

The actual purpose of PUAs is to generate revenue for the developers. They deliver invasive ad campaigns, redirect to harmful websites, and perform data tracking (browsing and personal information). PUAs hinder efficient web browsing and threaten users' privacy/identity, and computer safety.

How did adware install on my computer?

Potentially unwanted applications do not require explicit user permission to be installed onto a device. They are often distributed through "bundling" - install bundles/packs, which install PUAs together with intended, regular software. Intrusive ads are also known to distribute PUAs.

Developers are aware of the usual installation process by users and, thus, carelessness and tendency to skip steps can expose systems to PUAs (and various risks they carry).

Opt-outs are often possible for these unwanted applications, however they are frequently hidden behind "Custom/Advanced" settings. Carelessness while browsing (clicking untrustworthy ads) and rushing the installation process can lead to unwanted and even malicious applications installing onto the user's device.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Use official, verified sources for downloading software (preferably direct download links). Third party downloaders often use "bundling". Follow the proper installation procedure, exercising caution, studying installation settings/options and terms, opting-out of installation of any third party content.

Be careful with various ads and avoid suspicious sites. Intrusive ads can appear legitimate and provide no reason for suspicion, however, the sites they often redirect to (pornography, adult-themed, gambling, etc.) are often untrustworthy. If you encounter these ads/redirects, uninstall any suspicious applications and browser plug-ins.

Express caution to ensure device and user safety. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
