Stop browsers from causing redirects to bitscleanutil.xyz

What is bitscleanutil.xyz?
bitscleanutil.xyz is a dubious website that is usually opened through other scam and untrustworthy sites. Most people do not visit bitscleanutil.xyz intentionally.
Currently, this page promotes a potentially unwanted application (PUA) called Super Mac Cleaner. Do trust apps advertised on dubious websites. Furthermore, if the browser opens untrustworthy web pages (various scam sites) that lead to bitscleanutil.xyz, it is likely that a PUA is already installed.
Typically, scam websites display fake notifications/messages about 'detected viruses' and encourage visitors to remove them with dubious applications. In some cases, however, they lead to other dubious sites such as bitscleanutil.xyz that promote PUAs.
In this case, bitscleanutil.xyz promotes Super Mac Cleaner, however, it could also be used to trick people into installing other PUAs. If allowed, bitscleanutil.xyz downloads maccleaner.pkg, which is an installation file of the aforementioned app. In fact, this and other similar files are used to install other PUAs.
As we mentioned, browsers usually open scam sites and other deceptive pages when a PUA is installed. These apps cause unwanted redirects, gather data, and/or display unwanted ads. Typically, they collect information relating to users' browsing habits including, for example, IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of opened pages, entered search queries, and so on.
People who develop these apps usually share the information with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Note that PUAs are often designed to display unwanted, deceptive ads.
If clicked, these can open untrustworthy websites (such as the aforementioned scam pages) or run scripts that start downloading or even installing unwanted apps. To avoid being redirected to untrustworthy web pages that lead to other sites of this kind (e.g., bitscleanuntil.xyz) we recommend that you remove all installed PUAs immediately.

In any case, apps that are advertised on dubious web pages should not be trusted (installed, used, etc.). Typically, they do not operate as promised or fix any errors, remove viruses, clean systems, and so on. Furthermore, in many cases, users are encouraged to pay for activation.
How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?
People usually download and install unwanted apps inadvertently. This happens when they click deceptive advertisements or download/install software without checking settings that are available in the set-ups. To trick people into these unwanted installations/downloads, developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
They include PUAs into set-ups and hide this information in settings such as "Advanced", "Custom", etc. Furthermore, many people leave these settings unchanged, thereby agreeing with offers to download or install additional, unwanted software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Do not download files or software from unofficial websites, using torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peet networks), third party downloaders, or other tools/source of this kind. The safest way to download files is using official websites and direct download links.
Check all settings such as "Custom", "Advanced" that are available in set-ups, and dismiss offers to download or install unwanted, additionally-included (bundled) apps. Furthermore, avoid clicking ads displayed on dubious pages. When clicked, they can open other dubious websites or cause unwanted downloads/installations.
If redirects or intrusive ads are a regular issue, remove all unwanted extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins installed on the browser and unwanted programs installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
