Stop redirects to and from ckk.ai

Also Known As: ckk.ai pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is ckk[.]ai?

ckk[.]ai is yet another rogue website sharing many similarities with mediasvideo.livelurunews.biznnwap-download.club, and thousands of others. It operates by presenting visitors with dubious content and generating redirects to other untrustworthy and malicious web pages.

Few users enter ckk[.]ai intentionally - most access it via redirects caused by intrusive advertisements or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs). Note that these applications do not need express permission to infiltrate devices. After successful installation, PUAs generate redirects, deliver intrusive ads, and gather information relating to users' browsing habits.

ckk[.]ai pop-up redirects

Once opened, ckk[.]ai first checks visitors' IP addresses to learn their geolocations. This is crucial in determining the site's further course of action. Depending on their geolocations, users are redirected elsewhere and/or are presented with dubious, even harmful content.

This website also uses browser notifications, the consent option to which it disguises behind 'clickbait' (e.g. "Click here to begin downloading", "Press 'Allow' to verify that you are not a robot", "Tap 'Allow' to view video", etc.). If consent is given to notifications, ckk[.]ai begins running intrusive ad campaigns.

The resultant ads are more than just a nuisance, they are also a safety threat due to the dangerous sites to which they redirect and for their capability to execute scripts that stealthily download/install PUAs. These unwanted applications all generate similar redirects and can run intrusive ad campaigns.

By employing various tools, they enable third party graphical content to be displayed on any site, thereby delivering advertisements - this severely diminishes the browsing experience (limiting browsing speed and overlaying web pages). PUAs often have data tracking capabilities.

They monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, web pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather users' personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This private data is then shared with third parties (often, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it to generate revenue.

In summary, PUAs can cause browser/system infiltration and infections, and lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions plug-ins immediately upon detection.

PUAs share many similarities. They often seem legitimate and lure users to install by offering a broad array of "useful" features. These rarely work as advertised and are typically nonoperational. The only purpose of these apps is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no genuine value.

Rather than delivering any useful features, PUAs cause redirects to sale-based, untrustworthy, deceptive/scam and even malicious websites. They also deliver intrusive advertisement campaigns (pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, etc.) and collect vulnerable data.

How did adware install on my computer?

Some PUAs have "official" download pages on which they are commonly endorsed as "free" and "useful" software, however, they can also be installed together with other programs. The deceptive marketing tactic of pre-packing regular products with unwanted or malicious content is called "bundling".

Rushing download and installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps, using pre-set options, etc.) endanger devices with potential system infiltration and infections. Intrusive ads are also known to proliferate PUAs. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to make rogue downloads/installs.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Research all content, before downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download sources should. P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule, etc.), unofficial and free file-hosting websites, third party downloaders and similar channels are untrustworthy and should not be used.

Treat download/Installation processes should be treated with caution. Read the terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of downloading/installing additional apps, tools, functions, etc.

Intrusive advertisement usually seem normal and innocuous, however, they can redirect to suspicious sites (e.g. adult-dating, pornography, gambling and others). If you experience ads/redirects of this type, inspect the device and immediately remove all dubious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
