Avoid redirects to the video download service provided by y2mate.com

Also Known As: Ads by y2mate.com
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is y2meta[.]com?

Avoid the y2meta[.]com website, since it employs dubious advertising networks and provides an illegal video downloading service. Note that it is illegal to download videos from YouTube. Furthermore, y2meta[.]com contains various ads that redirect visitors to other untrustworthy websites. These are the two main reasons why this and other similar websites should not be used.

y2meta[.]com pop-up redirects

If clicked, ads displayed on y2meta[.]com open other untrustworthy, potentially malicious websites. Typically, the ads lead to web pages that advertise dubious software. Some of the opened sites might be designed to trick people into believing that their computers are infected with viruses.

Typically, websites of this type invite visitors to remove fake viruses with rogue programs. Furthermore, ads on y2meta[.]com might open pages used to promote potentially unwanted apps (PUAs) such as browser hijackers, adware, etc. If installed, these programs cause even more problems.

Browser hijackers change browser settings so that people are forced to use fake search engines. PUAs also gather browsing-related and other sensitive data, which the developers misuse to generate revenue. This often causes problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, or even identity theft.

Adware-type apps feed users with coupons, banners, pop-ups, surveys, and other ads. These are displayed on all visited websites. When clicked, they have identical behavior to ads displayed on y2meta[.]com. Additionally, they might run scripts that download and/or install unwanted, potentially malicious software.

Furthermore, y2meta[.]com asks visitors for permission to show notifications. Do not give dubious web pages these permissions, since they will then start to display dubious notifications, ads, and other content that could lead to unwanted downloads, installations, and other dubious web pages.

We strongly advise against using the video download service provided by y2meta[.]com or clicking ads on the site.

y2meta[.]com is similar to other web pages that offer the same service. For example, mp3-youtube[.]download, 2conv[.]com, and onlinevideoconverter[.]com

Typically, these websites use rogue ad networks, and thus contain dubious ads. If clicked, the ads cause redirects to other untrustworthy sites. In any case, do not trust these websites. If a PUA was downloaded and installed through a dubious web page or via an advertisement displayed on it, remove the PUA immediately.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are generally downloaded and installed without direct user permission. For example, when people click advertisements that download and/or install PUAs by running scripts. Apps of this type are also downloaded and/or installed through the set-ups of other, usually free software.

This happens when PUAs are included into the set-ups as additional offers. Typically, these offers can be found in options such as "Custom", "Advanced", and so on. People often fail to check these settings and download, install their regular programs without changing them. PUAs are then allowed to be downloaded and/or installed with regular software.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Software should be downloaded from official websites and using direct links. Do not to use various third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule, dubious websites, or other similar sources/tools to download or install software. Install software properly.

Check each download and installation setup and dismiss offers to download or install unwanted apps before finishing the process. Avoid clicking intrusive ads that are displayed on dubious web pages. For example, on those relating to gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc.

Typically, they redirect to untrustworthy websites or even cause download/installation of potentially malicious applications. If there are any unwanted, unknown or suspicious extensions, plug-ins or add-ons installed on the browser, remove them immediately.

The same applies to any unwanted programs of this kind installed on the computer. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
