What is ughmortanth[.]info?
ughmortanth[.]info is one of thousands of rogue websites online. It shares similarities with insertcoinage.com, actraffic.info, farcaleniom.com, and countless others. Visitors, who access it find that they are presented with dubious and/or harmful content. They might also be redirected to other untrustworthy or malicious web pages.
Most users enter ughmortanth[.]info and similar sites via redirects caused by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already infiltrated into the system. After successful installation, these apps generate redirects, run advertisement campaigns, hijack browsers, and track browsing-related data.
ughmortanth[.]info first checks visitors' IP (Internet Protocol) addresses to learn their geolocations. This data is crucial in determining its subsequent actions. According to their geolocations, users are redirected elsewhere and/or are presented with dubious content.
This web page uses browser notifications, the consent option to which it hides beneath 'clickbait' ("click ALLOW to continue / Download your youtube file"). If users are tricked into giving consent, this enables ughmortanth[.]info to run intrusive ad campaigns.
The resultant ads are more than just a nuisance, they are also a safety risk. When clicked, they can redirect users to sale-based, untrustworthy, compromised, deceptive/scam and malicious websites. Some can even be triggered to execute scripts that download/install PUAs without users' permission.
As mentioned, these applications can cause redirects to similarly dangerous web pages and deliver intrusive ads. As well as carrying the aforementioned risks, they limit browsing speed and site visibility (by overlying websites with unwanted content).
Other apps within this classification can make unauthorized changes to browsers and limit/deny access to settings (i.e., they hijack the browsers).
Regardless of specific type, most PUAs possess data tracking capabilities, which they employ to record users' browsing activity (URLs visited, web pages viewed, search queries, etc.) and collect their personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details).
This sensitive data can then be shared with third parties and fall into the hands of cyber criminals. Therefore, PUAs can cause browser and system infiltration/infections, and lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss, and identity theft. To ensure device and user safety. remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

PUAs often seem legitimate and offer a wide variety of features/functions. Regardless of how good these offers may sound, in most cases the features are nonoperational. The sole purpose of unwanted apps is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no genuine value.
Rather than delivering on any promises, PUAs cause redirects, deliver intrusive ads, hijack browsers and track private data.
How did adware install on my computer?
PUAs are often downloaded/installed together with other programs via "Bundling", a term used to describe the deceptive marketing method of pre-packing regular software with unwanted content.
By rushing through the download/installation processes (e.g. skipping steps and sections, using pre-set options, etc.), many users endanger their systems with various infiltration and infections. When clicked, intrusive ads can execute scripts to stealthily download/install PUAs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Research all content to verify its legitimacy, before downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download channels, as opposed to untrustworthy sources such as P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), free file-hosting websites, and other third party downloaders.
Treat download and installation processes with caution. Read the terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt-out of download/installation of supplementary apps, tools, functions, and so on.
Intrusive ads rarely seem suspicious, often appearing normal and innocuous, however, they can redirect to dubious web pages, such as gambling, pornography, adult-dating and others. If you encounter ads/redirects of this type, inspect the system and immediately remove all dubious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
