What is MyTelevisionOnline Search?
MyTelevisionOnline Search is a browser hijacker, endorsed as a tool for easy access to various TV-related content. Additionally, it offers quick access to users' favorite topics, news, images and videos. In fact, MyTelevisionOnline Search changes browser settings to promote a fake search engine (feed.mytelevisiononline.com).
Most browser hijackers possess data tracking capabilities, including MyTelevisionOnline Search, which is also categorized as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA) due to its dubious proliferation methods.
Typically, browser hijackers target Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and other popular browsers with large user bases. After successful infiltration, these rogue apps assign the addresses of their fake search engines as the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URL.
I.e., with MyTelevisionOnline Search installed, each new tab/window opened and each search made via the URL bar redirects to feed.mytelevisiononline.com. Few fake search engines are capable of generating unique results, and so they redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Google, Yahoo, Bing or other genuine sites.
In the case of feed.mytelevisiononline.com, it redirects to search.yahoo.com. While seemingly minor, these changes significantly diminish the browsing experience. On initial inspection these alterations may seem easy to undo, however, access to browser settings can be limited or denied, and any permitted changes made, automatically reset.
To recover an affected browser, it is necessary to remove the hijacker. As mentioned, MyTelevisionOnline Search can track data. It monitors users' browsing habits (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gathers their personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details).
This vulnerable data can then be shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it for profit.
The presence of data-tracking content on devices can lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To ensure browser and system integrity, and user safety, remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner.
TheEasyWayPro, Fast Flight Tracker, and EntertainmentNewsNow are a few examples of other browser hijackers. In general, most PUAs share similar traits. They often seem legitimate and entice users into downloading/installing them with offers of "useful" features.
These features rarely work as advertised, and are often nonoperational. The sole purpose of all PUAs is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value.
This category of PUA modifies browsers and promotes bogus search engines, causes redirects to untrustworthy/malicious web pages, runs intrusive advertisement campaigns and tracks private data.
How did MyTelevisionOnline Search install on my computer?
Some PUAs (e.g. MyTelevisionOnline Search) have "official" download sites. These applications can also be downloaded/installed together with other products. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing regular content with unwanted or malicious software is called "bundling".
Rushing download and installation processes (e.g. skimming or ignoring terms, using presets, skipping steps and sections, etc.) increases the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled apps onto systems. Once clicked, intrusive ads can execute scripts to stealthily download/install PUAs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Research all content to verify its legitimacy, before downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download channels. Do not use P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule, etc.), free file-hosting sites or other third party downloaders, as they are classed as untrustworthy.
When downloading/installing, read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of supplementary apps, tools, features and so on. Intrusive advertisements usually seem normal and harmless, however, they can redirect to highly dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).
If you experience these ads/redirects, check the system and immediately remove all dubious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with MyTelevisionOnline Search, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
