What is yourprizeszx?

Yourprizeszx is a family of deceptive websites. Typically, such families include pages that are designed to deceive visitors into providing sensitive information, installing potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) like browser hijackers, adware, or even malicious software like ransomware, Trojan-type programs, etc. In one way or another, yourprizeszx pages cannot be trusted. It is common that such sites get opened when users click deceptive advertisements, open questionable pages and/or have some PUA installed on a browser and/or operating system. Simply said, users do not visit yourprizeszx and other websites intentionally.

yourprizeszx scam

One of the yourprizeszx pages is a lottery scam page which is similar to "Dear Safari User, You Are Today's Lucky Visitor" and many other sites. Very often pages of this type are designed to deceive their visitors into thinking that they have won or can win some prize (e.g., iPhone, gift card). Visitors are encouraged to complete some survey and provide various information. Basically, scammers behind such pages attempt to extract confidential information (like credit card details) that they could misuse to generate revenue by making fraudulent transactions, purchases, etc.). Websites of this type should never be trusted. Furthermore, yourprizeszx may include pages that could be used to distribute browser hijackers, adware-type application and other (PUAs, or even malicious programs like ransomware, Trojans. Browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing browser's settings and collect various information. Usually they target browsing data, however, they may be targeting personal, sensitive information as well. Adware is a type of software that serves various intrusive advertisements. It is common that they are designed to gather various information as well. Ransomware-type programs encrypt victim's files with a strong encryption algorithm so they could not be decrypted without a tool (or tools) that usually can be bough only from cyber criminals who designed them. Trojans can be designed to spread/install other programs of this kind. In other words, it is common that they are designed to open 'backdoor' for other malware. Both unwanted and malicious programs can be distributed through fake Adobe Flash Player installers, it is very likely that yourprizeszx includes pages designed to promote them. To sum up, all of the yourprizeszx sites should be ignored/cannot be trusted.

Yourprizeszx is not the only family of untrustworthy, deceptive websites. Some more examples are prizeseeker, prizesfinder and vnbue. Usually they load pages that contain deceptive advertisements, are designed to trick visitors into providing sensitive details, advertise questionable, potentially unwanted or even malicious software, and so on. In order to avoid any possible problems like issues related to browsing safety, online privacy, identity theft, monetary loss, etc., it is recommended to never trust any of those pages. To be more precise, not to download anything from them, provide any information on them or trust them in any other way. It is common that browsers open such pages by themselves because some installed PUA is forcing them to.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

In most cases PUAs are distributed through deceptive advertisements that cause their downloads and/or installations by running certain scripts, and download, installation setups of other programs. It is common that users get tricked into downloading and/or installing PUAs when they download and/or install other programs and leave "Custom", "Advanced" settings that are available in their setups unchecked and unchanged. By leaving the aforementioned settings unchanged users often allow for those apps to be downloaded and/or installed alongside with a desired software. This distribution method of potentially unwanted apps is known as "bundling".

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Channels like third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule and other networks of this type), unofficial, questionable websites, etc., can be used to distribute PUAs. It is possible that they may be used to spread malware too. Therefore, all files and programs should be downloaded only from official websites and through direct links. Download and/or installation setups often contains settings like "Custom", "Advanced". These settings should be always checked for offers to download and/or install additionally included applications (PUAs). Advertisements that appear on various questionable websites (e.g., on pages related to pornography, gambling, adult dating) cannot be trusted. It is common that they lead users to untrustworthy, potentially malicious websites or cause downloads, instalations of unwanted software. Unwanted, suspicious apps (extensions, plug-ins or add-ons) that are installed on a web browser should be uninstalled from as soon as possible. This applies to proframs of this kind that are installed on the operating system too. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
