Savethevideo[.]com redirect removal instructions

What is savethevideo[.]com?

Savethevideo[.]com is an untrustworthy website, designed to allow users to convert videos from YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other sites from URLs. It can also be used to edit (e.g. cut and merge) the videos. Aside from infringing copyright law, savethevideo[.]com also uses rogue advertising networks. This is a common monetization technique, by which content/advertisements displayed within a website promote dubious and possibly malicious material. Hence, when such webpages are accessed, used (i.e. any of the buttons/options are pressed), displayed ads are clicked - users are redirected to various unreliable and even dangerous websites. Therefore, it is advised against visiting/using savethevideo[.]com, as that can result in serious issues.

savethevideo[.]com pop-up redirects

Upon being accessed and/or any of its buttons are clicked, savethevideo[.]com redirects to (i.e. force-opens) other untrustworthy/rogue, sale-oriented, deceptive, compromised, scam and malicious pages. Directly or indirectly interacting with the content presented in savethevideo[.]com and the sites it promotes can lead to a variety of problems. For example, when clicked - intrusive advertisements (e.g. pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, etc.) cause redirects to such webpages as well and they can execute scripts, designed to stealthily download software. One prime example of products infiltrated into systems in this manner are PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications). These apps often have "official" download websites, which are pushed by rogue content (e.g. sites, adverts, etc.). Despite their legitimate appearance and "useful" features, PUAs are deemed to be untrustworthy. The functions they promise are usually nonoperational, but what is more - they can have abilities that endanger device/user safety. Unwanted applications can operate as adware - run intrusive advertisement campaigns. In other words, these enable the placement of previously described adverts on any visited page. Another PUA type force-opens various harmful sites. Others classified as browser hijackers, modify browser settings and restrict/deny access to their settings - in order to promote fake search engines. Most PUAs (regardless of type/specifications) can track data. They can record browsing activity (browsing and search engine histories) and collect users' personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The gathered data is likely to be shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), seeking to misuse it for profit. Furthermore, savethevideo[.]com endorses a dubious app, which in fact is a Google Chrome browser extension (though following infiltration it cannot be seen in the extension list). This questionable extension changes Chrome's interface appearance, however it is not unlikely that it may have some heinous abilities. To summarize, presence of PUAs on devices can result in various infiltrations and infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses and even identity theft. Therefore, it is highly recommended to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

Youtubetomp3.bizlistentoyoutube.online and convertisseur-youtube-mp3.net are a few examples of other websites offering similar services as savethevideo[.]com. Such sites typically employ rogue advertising networks and using them can compromise browser/system integrity and endanger user safety. If a browser is randomly force-opening dubious pages, it may be due to PUAs having infiltrated the device.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs proliferate via download/installation setups of the programs. This deceptive marketing tactic of pre-packing regular products with unwanted or malicious software - is termed "bundling". Rushed download/installation processes (e.g. ignored terms, skipped steps, etc.) - increase the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content onto the system. Select PUAs have "official" promotional webpages, from which they can be downloaded. Upon being clicked, intrusive advertisements can execute scripts to download/install PUAs, without user consent.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is recommended to research products, prior to download/installation. Only official and verified download channels should be used, as opposed to - unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders. When downloading/installing, it is important to read terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features and so on. Intrusive adverts often appear ordinary and harmless, however they redirect to unreliable and dubious sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.). In case of encounters with ads/redirects of this kind, users should check the system and remove all suspect applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins from it. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
