Do not use the savethevideo.com dubious website

Also Known As: savethevideo.com pop-up
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is savethevideo[.]com?

savethevideo[.]com is an untrusted website allowing users to convert videos from YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other sites, from URLs. It can also be used to edit (e.g. cut and merge) videos. As well as infringing copyright law, savethevideo[.]com uses rogue advertising networks.

This is a common monetization technique by which content/advertisements displayed within a website promote dubious and possibly malicious material. Therefore, when these web pages are accessed and used (i.e., any buttons/options are pressed) or displayed ads are clicked, people are redirected to other dubious and even dangerous websites.

Therefore, avoid visiting or using savethevideo[.]com, since this can result in serious issues.

savethevideo[.]com pop-up redirects

When accessed and buttons are clicked, savethevideo[.]com redirects to (i.e., force-opens) other untrusted/rogue, sale-oriented, deceptive, compromised, scam or malicious web pages. Directly or indirectly interacting with the content presented in savethevideo[.]com and the sites it promotes can lead to various problems.

For example, when clicked, intrusive advertisements (e.g. pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, etc.) cause redirects to dubious web pages and can execute scripts designed to stealthily download rogue software. Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) are prime examples of products infiltrated into systems in this manner.

These apps often have "official" download websites, which are promoted by rogue content (e.g. web sites, ads, etc.). Despite their legitimate appearance and "useful" features, PUAs are untrusted. The functions they promise are usually nonoperational and, furthermore, they have capabilities that endanger device/user safety.

These unwanted applications can operate as adware by running intrusive advertisement campaigns. These enable the placement of intrusive ads on any visited web pages. Other PUAs force-open harmful websites. Others classified as browser hijackers modify browser settings, and restrict/deny access to these settings to promote fake search engines.

Regardless of type/specification, Most PUAs can track data. They can record browsing activity (browsing and search engine histories) and collect users' personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The gathered data is often shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it for profit.

Furthermore, savethevideo[.]com endorses a dubious app, which in fact is a Google Chrome browser extension (though, following infiltration, it cannot be seen in the extension list). This dubious extension changes Chrome's interface appearance and might have some dangerous capabilities.

To summarize, the presence of PUAs on devices can result in infiltration and infections, serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. Therefore, you are strongly advised to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

youtubetomp3.bizlistentoyoutube.online and convertisseur-youtube-mp3.net are some examples of other websites offering similar services to savethevideo[.]com.

These sites typically employ rogue advertising networks, thus using them can compromise browser/system integrity and endanger people's online safety and privacy. If your browser is randomly force-opening dubious pages, it could be due to PUAs having infiltrated the device.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs proliferate via the download/installation set-ups of other programs. This deceptive marketing tactic of pre-packing regular products with unwanted or malicious software is termed "bundling". Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content onto the system.

Some PUAs have "official" promotional web pages from which they can be downloaded. When clicked, intrusive advertisements can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are advised to research all products prior to download/installation. Use only official and verified download channels, as opposed to unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks or other third party downloaders.

When downloading/installing, it is important to read the terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features and so on. Intrusive ads often seem normal and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious web sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).

If you encounter these ads/redirects, check the system and remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
