Package Tracking Tab browser hijacker removal instructions
What is Package Tracking Tab?
Package Tracking Tab is a potentially unwanted application, a browser hijacker which is designed to promote the packagetrackingtab.com address (fake search engine). Like most apps of this type, it does that by modifying certain browser's settings. Also, most browser hijackers are designed to collect data relate to user's browsing activities. They are categorized as PUAs because users often download and/or install them unknowingly. It is worthwhile to mention that Package Tracking Tab is distributed together with another PUA called Safeplex Search.
As a rule, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing settings such as address of a homepage, default search engine and new tab. In other words, they are designed to ensure that users would visit an address of a certain fake search engine every time they open a browser, new tab or enter search queries into URL bar. Package Tracking Tab changes the aforementioned settings to packagetrackingtab.com. It is common that the only way to stop a browser hijacker from opening a certain address on the aforementioned occasions is to uninstall it. In this case it means that packagetrackingtab.com can be removed from browser's settings when Package Tracking Tab is uninstalled. It is worthwhile to mention that packagetrackingtab.com is a fake search engine because it does not generate any individual, unique search results. When used, it redirects users to search.yahoo.com (displays Yahoo's results). Furthermore, it is not uncommon that browser hijackers are designed to gather information related to user's browsing activities. Usually they collect IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, geolocations, and/or other details of this kind. Although, app of this type can be designed to record personal, sensitive information as well. As if it were not enough, all collected data could be sold to third parties (potentially cyber criminals) who would misuse it to generate revenue in other ways. Therefore, users of hijacked browsers may become victims of identity theft, experience problems related to browsing safety, online privacy, and/or some other issues. It is strongly recommended not to download and install apps of this type. If some browser hijacker (including Package Tracking Tab and Safeplex Search) is already installed on a browser and/or operating system, then it should be uninstalled from it right away.
