How to remove redirects to and from fasttrack.mobi

Also Known As: fasttrack.mobi pop-up
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is fasttrack[.]mobi?

fasttrack[.]mobi is a rogue website that shares many similarities with findyourpleasure3.lifepersonal-video.liveturbostream.icu and countless others. Visitors to this site are presented with dubious content and/or are redirected to other untrusted/malicious web pages.

Typically, fasttrack[.]mobi is accessed via redirects caused by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs). These apps do not need express user consent to be installed onto devices. PUAs cause redirects, deliver intrusive ad campaigns, hijack browsers and track browsing-related information.

fasttrack[.]mobi pop-up redirects

The behavior of rogue websites usually depends on visitors' geolocations. They learn this information by checking users' IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. Therefore, whether visitors are redirected elsewhere or are presented with dubious material, is determined by their geolocations.

Rogue websites can redirect to various legitimate and rogue content sale-oriented/promotional sites and untrusted, compromised, deceptive/scam and malicious pages. For example, during research, fasttrack[.]mobi has been observed promoting the classicgift.download rogue web page and prizesfinder scam site.

Additionally, many untrusted web pages host intrusive advertisements and/or use browser notifications to deliver them. When clicked, these ads redirect to dubious/dangerous websites and can even execute scripts designed to stealthily download/install unwanted software.

Prime examples of content infiltrated into systems in this manner are PUAs. As well as causing redirects, some types can run intrusive ad campaigns. Others can modify browser settings and restrict/deny access to them in order to promote bogus search engines.

Furthermore, most PUAs can track data. They can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). PUA developers often monetize the gathered data by sharing it with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it for profit.

Therefore, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can result in system infections, financial loss, serious privacy issues and identity theft. To protect device integrity and user safety, you are strongly advised to remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

PUAs may seem legitimate and useful, and users are often tempted into download/installation with offers of a wide variety of functionalities. In fact, these features are seldom operational. The only purpose of these unwanted apps is to generate revenue for the developers.

They have no real value and can instead cause serious problems. PUAs operate by force-opening untrusted and malicious web pages, running intrusive ad campaigns, hijacking browsers and tracking private data.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are distributed via the download/installation set-ups of other software. "Bundling" is the term used to define this deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular products with unwanted or malicious additions.

Rushing downloads/installations (e.g. skimmed or ignored terms, used pre-set options, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content onto the system. Some PUAs have "official" download pages. Intrusive advertisements also proliferate these applications. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' permission.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

All products should be researched prior to download/installation or purchase. Use official and verified download channels. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.) and other third party downloaders commonly offer dubious and bundled content, and are therefore untrusted.

When downloading/installing, read the terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features and so on. Intrusive ads may seem normal and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious sites (e.g. pornography, adult-dating, gambling and others).

If you encounter ads/redirects of this type, inspect the system and immediately remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
