Charming Tab browser hijacker removal instructions
What is Charming Tab?
Charming Tab is designed to hijack browsers by changing some of their settings to charming-tab.com, an address of a fake search engine. Another problem with most apps of this type is that they are designed to collect various data. It is common that users download and install them unintentionally, therefore, they are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
After installation Charming Tab changes settings such as address of a default search engine, homepage and new tab. It sets them to charming-tab.com so that users would be forced to visit this address when they open a browser, new tab and enter search queries into URL bar. Charming-tab.com redirects users to google.com, it provides results generated by Google. Therefore, as a search engine it is completely useless. To remove charming-tab.com from browser's settings it is required to uninstall Charming Tab first. It is because apps of this type do not allow users to modify settings that were changed by them as long as they are installed. Furthermore, it is possible that Charming Tab is designed to gather various data like geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, IP addresses and/or other browsing data. However, it may be capable of accessing sensitive information too. The problem with it is that its developers may misuse collected data to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially cyber criminals). Therefore, if Charming Tab or any other app of this type is installed on a browser and/or operating system, then it should be uninstalled form it right away. Apps of this type can be the reason behind problems related to browsing safety, online privacy, identity theft and/or other issues.

Some more examples of apps classified as browser hijackers are Translations Instant, Search Sherpa and GameSearch. Most of the times such apps are designed to promote some fake search engine (its address) and collect some data. They tend to be advertised as useful, legitimate apps that supposed to deliver some features, improve browsing experience, etc. Although, very often browser hijackers are useless and can cause various problems. Therefore, History Hide (or other app of this type) is already installed on a browser and/or computer, then it should be eliminated as soon as possible.
How did Charming Tab install on my computer?
Typically, users download and/or install browser hijackers when they download and/or install programs that have them included in their setups as additional offers. In most cases such offers can be found in "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other settings of setups. Although, not all users check and change them. By leaving default settings unchanged users often download and/install not only the software that they seek to download and/or install, but also some PUAs. This software distribution method is known as "bundling". Additionally, sometimes PUAs can unknowingly downloaded and/or installed through deceptive advertisements. However, it happens only when users click ads that are designed to execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is not recommended to download (or install) programs or files via third party downloaders, installers, torrents clients, eMule or other Peer-to-Peer networks, unofficial websites, etc. It should be done by using only official websites and direct links. Also, it is important not to leave "Custom", "Advanced" or other similar settings that are included in download and/or installation setups of various, especially free programs. Those settings often mention offers to download or install additional software. Furthermore, it is recommended not to click intrusive advertisements that appear on questionable websites. Quite often such ads open untrustworthy websites, in some cases they cause unwanted downloads, installations. If some suspicious, unwanted extensions, add-ons or/and plug-ins are already installed on a browser or/and programs of this kind are installed on the operating system, then they should be uninstall immediately. If your computer is already infected with Charming Tab, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
