ConvertPDFEasy browser hijacker removal instructions
What is ConvertPDFEasy?
ConvertPDFEasy is a typical browser hijacker: it changes certain browser settings to promote a fake search engine (in this case, convertpdfeasy.com) and collects browsing-related data. Note that browser hijackers are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), since users often download and install them unintentionally.
Generally, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. ConvertPDFEasy assigns them to convertpdfeasy.com. The main purpose of this is to ensure that users are forced to visit convertpdfeasy.com when they open a browser/new window, new tab, and search by entering queries into the URL bar. Note that most fake search engines do not generate unique search results - they simply provide those generated by other search engines. In some cases, they generate misleading information. Convertpdfeasy.com displays results generated by Yandex (and redirects users to yandex.ru). Note that Yandex is a legitimate search engine. Typically, apps such as ConvertPDFEasy prevent users from changing/undoing the aforementioned settings, unless they are uninstalled. Therefore, to remove convertpdfeasy.com from browser settings, ConvertPDFEasy must first be uninstalled. As mentioned, browser hijackers often collect browsing data, and other information. Generally, they gather details such as IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, etc., however, some browser hijackers are capable of accessing private, sensitive details. The developers sell the information to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways. Therefore, apps of this type can cause problems relating to browsing safety, online privacy and even identity theft. Do not trust ConvertPDFEasy and uninstall all PUAs immediately.

MySearch Search, PDFConvertersSearch and SearchConverterHD are some examples of other PUAs that are classified as browser hijackers. Generally, these apps are designed only to promote fake search engines and collect certain data. They do not improve the browsing experience, include any features, or are useful in any other way. Furthermore, browser hijackers can cause serious issues and should never be downloaded or installed.
How did ConvertPDFEasy install on my computer?
Commonly, PUAs are included into the download or installation set-ups as 'additional offers', which are usually hidden in "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings. Distribution of unwanted apps through the set-ups of other programs is known "bundling". Developers often use it to trick users into downloading and installing unwanted programs together with their required software. Users allow these unwanted apps to be downloaded and installed by leaving settings that are available in the set-ups unchanged. Additionally, unwanted downloads and installations can be caused by clicking deceptive advertisements that run certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Unofficial, dubious websites, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g. eMule, torrent clients), third party downloaders, installers and other tools/channels should not be used to download or install any programs or files. Use official websites and direct links. Check all settings such as "Custom" and "Advanced" and decline offers to download or install unwanted software before completing the process. Do not click intrusive advertisements that appear on dubious web pages, since these can open untrusted websites or cause download/installation of unwanted apps. Remove all unwanted, suspicious extensions, add-ons and plug-ins that are installed on the browser, and software of this kind that is installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with ConvertPDFEasy, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
