Breaking News Now browser hijacker removal instructions
What is Breaking News Now?
Breaking News Now is a typical browser hijacker: after installation it changes certain browser settings to breakingnewsnowtab.com (address of a fake search engine). Another issue with apps of this type is that they tend to be designed to gather various data. Users often download and install browser hijackers unintentionally, for this reason they are called (categorized as) potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Like most browser hijackers, Breaking News Now changes these browser settings: address of a homepage, default search engine and new tab. It sets them to breakingnewsnowtab.com. Therefore, users who have installed Breaking News Now on a browser have to visit breakingnewsnowtab.com when they open a browser, new tab and enter search queries into URL bar. This fake search engine displays results generated by Yahoo, it redirects users to search.yahoo.com. To remove its address from a browser settings users have to uninstall Breaking News Now first, otherwise this app will reassign its settings after every attempt to modify them. Additionally, this app may be designed to operate as information tracking tool which collects browsing data like geolocations, IP addresses, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries and other data of this kind. Although, it may be designed to record sensitive, personal details as well. What is worse, it developers may sell all collected data to third parties (potentially cyber criminals) or misuse it to generate revenue in other ways. To sum up, browser hijackers not only change browser settings but also can be the reason behind problems related to privacy, browsing safety, and so on. Some users may even become victims of identity theft. Therefore, if Breaking News Now or any other PUA is installed on a web browser and/or operating system, then it should be uninstalled from it as soon as possible.
