How to remove PracticalSystem from Mac?

What is PracticalSystem?

PracticalSystem is classified as adware and a browser hijacker: this app serves advertisements and promotes fake search engines (0yrvtrh.com and search.dominantmethod.com) by changing some of the browser settings. Also, PracticalSystem can read sensitive information from websites. It is categorized as potentially unwanted application, it is because most of the times users download and install such apps inadvertently, unknowingly.

PracticalSystem adware

Research shows that PracticalSystem changes browser settings on Chrome browser to search.dominantmethod.com, on Safari browser - to 0yrvtrh.com. These are the fake search engines that provide results generated by Yahoo (these addresses redirect users to search.yahoo.com). That is the main reason why they are called fake search engine. Most of the times users cannot change the address that was assigned by the installed browser hijacker to any preferred address unless they uninstall that app. Therefore, 0yrvtrh.com and/or search.dominantmethod.com can be removed from settings of a browser hijacked by PracticalSystem only when this PUA is no longer installed. Another reason not to have it installed is because it can collect information such as passwords, telephone numbers, credit card details and some other sensitive information. Such details could be misused to steal accounts, identities, make fraudulent purchases, transactions, it could be sold to third parties (potentially cyber criminals) and/or misused for other malicious purposes. Like most apps of this type, PracticalSystem is designed to serve advertisements too. It is common that such applications serve advertisements designed to promote/open questionable websites and/or even cause unwanted downloads, installations. Some examples of ads that apps like PracticalSystem can be designed to display are coupons, banners, pop-ups, surveys. These are the reasons why PracticalSystem should never be installed. If it already is, then it is strongly recommended to uninstall it from a browser and computer as soon as possible.

PracticalSystem is very similar to TypeConsole, DigitalEnviroment and TypicalOperation and many other applications. As a rule, those apps are designed to serve ads, collect various data and hijack browsers. Even if they are advertised as useful, legitimate most of them are designed only to generate revenue for their developers and are useless to their users.

How did PracticalSystem install on my computer?

In some cases unwanted downloads, installations can be caused by clicking deceptive ads that are designed to execute certain scripts. Although, more often users download and/or install potentially unwanted applications alongside with some other programs. To be more precise, when PUAs are included in setups of those programs as additional offers. Usually additionally included apps can be found in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of setups. PUAs are allowed to be downloaded and/or installed when users download and install programs that have those apps included in setups without changing the aforementioned settings (declining offers to download and/or install PUAs). This distribution method is called "bundling".

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is recommended to always check "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual" and other similar settings of any download or installation setup. As a rule, those settings can be used to decline offers to download and/or install unwanted apps. Also, it is advised not to download software (and files) from untrustworthy, unofficial websites, through torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, etc., or install them using third party installers. Software and files should be always downloaded from official websites and direct download links. Additionally, it is recommended not to click ads that appear on questionable websites - they can cause unwanted downloads, installations, or simply open other sites of this kind. If there are any unwanted or suspicious apps (extensions, add-ons or plug-ins) installed on a browser, then they should be removed from it. The same should be applies to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with PracticalSystem, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
