How to uninstall TypeConsole adware from the operating system

Also Known As: Ads by TypeConsole
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What is TypeConsole?

TypeConsole is an adware-type application that possesses browser hijacker characteristics. It runs intrusive advertisement campaigns and makes alterations to browser settings to promote bogus search engines. TypeConsole promotes 0yrvtrh.com on Safari browsers and search.dominantmethod.com on Google Chrome browsers.

Additionally, most adware-type apps and browser hijackers have data tracking capabilities, which are employed to monitor users' browsing habits. Due to the dubious techniques used to proliferate TypeConsole, it is also classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA).

TypeConsole adware

Adware delivers pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, full-page and other intrusive advertisements. These overlay web page content and reduce browsing speed, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. Furthermore, once clicked, intrusive ads redirect to dubious/malicious websites and some can even stealthily download/install software (e.g. PUAs).

Browser hijackers reassign the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs to the addresses of bogus search engines. Therefore, with this software installed, each new browser tab/window opened and search made via the URL bar redirects to the promoted address.

TypeConsole also promotes fake search engines in this fashion: on Safari it promotes 0yrvtrh.com, and on Google Chrome, search.dominantmethod.com. Rogue search engines are rarely capable of providing search results, and so they tend to redirect to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other genuine sites.

Browser hijackers can also reset any changes users attempt to make to their browsers and/or restrict/deny access to the settings outright. Therefore, recovering a hijacked browser is impossible without removing the software affecting it. As mentioned, most PUAs (adware and browser hijackers included) can track data.

They can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, web pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The gathered data is shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).

To summarize, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can lead to system infections, serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To protect device integrity and user safety, all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be eliminated without delay.

DigitalEnviroment, TypicalOperation, and OperativeProgram are some examples of other adware-type applications. They may seem normal and often entice users into download/installation with offers of various "useful" functionality, however, despite how good the features may sound, they are usually nonoperational.

In fact, this is true of most PUAs. This unwanted software has just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs run intrusive ad campaigns, hijack browsers, cause redirects and gather private data.

How did TypeConsole install on my computer?

PUAs are often downloaded/installed together with other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".

By rushing through download/installation of software (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, using "Quick/Express" settings, etc.) many users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content into their devices. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well.

When clicked, the ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without users' permission. Some PUAs have "official" download web pages from which they can be downloaded.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are advised to research all software before download/installation. Use only official and verified download channels. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule), and other third party downloaders commonly offer harmful and bundled content, and are therefore untrusted and should be avoided.

When downloading/installing, read the terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, and so on. Intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious and malicious sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and many others).

If you encounter ads or redirects of this kind, inspect the system and remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately. If your computer is already infected with TypeConsole, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
