Spacerin browser hijacker removal instructions
What is Spacerin?
Spacerin is designed to promote the spacerin.com address by changing certain browser settings. Spacerin.com is the address of a fake search engine. Also, apps of this type tend to be designed to collect information related to browsing habits of their users. One more important detail about browser hijackers is that most of the times users download and install them inadvertently. Therefore, Spacerin and other apps of this type are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Spacerin is designed to make spacerin.com as the address of a default search engine, homepage and new tab so that users would be forced to visit it when they enter search queries into URL bar, open a browser or new tab. If used to search the web, spacerin.com redirects users to search.yahoo.com - it provides results generated by Yahoo search engine. Spacerin.com is useless, fake search engine because it does not generate unique results. Typically, browser hijackers are designed to prevent users from removing the address of a fake search engine from browser settings. Users can do that only when a browser hijacker is no longer installed on a browser and/or the operating system. Furthermore, it is likely that Spacerin is designed to gather various data like geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, IP addresses and/or other browsing data. Also, it may be capable of accessing sensitive information. The problem with it is that its developers could misuse collected data to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially cyber criminals), or in some other ways. It means that Spacerin could be the reason behind problems related to browsing safety, online privacy, identity theft and/or some other issues.

How did Spacerin install on my computer?
More often than not potentially unwanted applications are distributed by using a deceptive marketing method known as "bundling". It means that they are included in download and/or installation setups of other programs as extra offers. Usually such offers can be declined via "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" settings or by unticking certain checkboxes before completing downloads and/or installations. However, not all users do that and that is how they download and/or install not only wanted programs but also PUAs that are included in their setups. In some cases users cause such downloads (and/or installations) by clicking untrustworthy advertisements, however, only when they click ads that are designed to run certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is advised not to use third party downloaders, installers, to download software, and files from untrustworthy websites, via Peer-to-Peer networks (like torrent clients, eMule) and other unreliable sources. They should be downloaded from official, trustworthy websites, and via direct download links. Also, it is not recommended to finish any download or installation process without checking if a download and/or installation has "Custom", "Advanced" or other settings that could be used to decline offers to download or install unwanted apps. Furthermore, it s advised not to trust avoid ads that are displayed on questionable websites. If clicked, they may open potentially malicious websites or even cause unwanted downloads, installations. Additionally, there should not be any unwanted extensions, plug-ins and add-ons installed on a browser and programs of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with Spacerin, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
