How to remove RemoteAlgorithm from Mac?
What is RemoteAlgorithm?
Adware is a type of software that serves advertisements, however, RemoteAlgorithm functions not only as adware but also as a browser hijacker. It changes certain browser settings so that users would be forced to visit an address of a fake search engine. Additionally, RemoteAlgorithm can read sensitive information from websites. Typically, users do not download and install apps like RemoteAlgorithm, therefore, this and other apps of this type are called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
In most cases adware-type applications like RemoteAlgorithm are designed to serve banners, coupons, pop-ups, surveys and/or other types of advertisements. It is common that when users click those ads, they allow them to open questionable websites, or even execute scripts designed to cause unwanted downloads and/or installations. Furthermore, RemoteAlgorithm is designed to change browser settings such as address of a homepage, default search engine and/or new tab to an address of some fake search engine. Typically, search engines that are promoted by apps like this one do not generate any unique results - they provide results generated by some other search engine. In some cases they generate results that include links to unreliable web pages. Most of the times users cannot remove the address of a fake search engine from browser settings unless the app that is designed to promote it is no longer installed on a browser and/or computer. As mentioned in the introduction, RemoteAlgorithm can read certain information. It is known that it is designed to collect data such credit card details, passwords, telephone numbers and some other sensitive data. Such information can be misused for malicious purposes, for example, to steal identities, personal accounts, make fraudulent purchases, transactions. These are the main reasons why the RemoteAlgorithm should never be downloaded and installed.

RemoteAlgorithm is virtually identical to IndexerInput, OperativeSync, LaunchSystem and many other apps. Most of them are designed only to generate revenue for their developers. In other words, they are useless to their users and can cause them various issues. If RemoteAlgorithm or any other app of this type is already installed on a browser and/or computer, then it should be removed as soon as possible.
How did RemoteAlgorithm install on my computer?
Typically, users download and/or install unwanted apps together with programs that have those apps included in their setups as additional offers. Usually those offers can be found and declined by unticking certain checkboxes or via "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other settings of setups. When users download and/or install programs without checking and changing the aforementioned settings (and/or unticking certain checkboxes), they download and/install offered PUAs as well. This software distribution method is known as "bundling". Also, PUAs can be downloaded and/or installed through deceptive advertisements. Although, it can be caused only by clicking ads that are designed to execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Software and files should be downloaded only from official, trustworthy sources (websites) and not via third party downloaders, Peer-to-Peer networks (like torrent clients, eMule), unofficial pages, etc. Third party installers should not be used to install software too. Downloads and installations should not be completed without checking if a setup has "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings that could be used to decline offers to download and/or install unwanted apps. Advertisements on shady pages should be trusted/clicked as well, quite often they are designed to promote unreliable websites. In some cases they can be designed to cause unwanted downloads and/or installations. And finally, there should not be any unwanted apps (extensions, add-ons or plug-ins) installed on a browser and software of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with RemoteAlgorithm, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
