How to remove the LivePDFSearch application

Also Known As: livepdfsearch.com redirect
Damage level: Medium

What is LivePDFSearch?

Typically, apps such as LivePDFSearch force users to visit a specific web address. This browser hijacker promotes livepdfsearch.com, the address of a fake search engine by modifying certain browser settings. It can also read browsing-related information.

Users often download and install browser hijackers inadvertently and, for this reason, LivePDFSearch and other apps of this type are classified as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).

livepdfsearch.com browser hijacker

Generally, browser hijackers change browser settings such the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. LivePDFSearch assigns them to livepdfsearch.com. In this way, it forces users to visit livepdfsearch.com by opening it when users enter search queries into the URL bar or open a browser/new tab.

This search engine is fake because it redirects users to search.yahoo.com and simply provides results generated by Yahoo (it does not generate unique results). Typically, users cannot remove fake search engines (e.g., livepdfsearch.com) from browser settings without first uninstalling the browser hijacker (in this case, Search Online) that promote them.

Browser hijackers also gather browsing data (e.g., IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of opened websites, and entered search queries), and also private, sensitive details. The data could be sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or misused to generate revenue in other ways. In such cases, users might encounter issues relating to internet browsing safety, online privacy, and even become victims of identity theft.

There are many potentially unwanted applications that are classified as browser hijackers. Some examples are GillCom, IncognitoSearchNet and Nusmash.

Commonly, they are advertised as apps that supposedly improve the browsing experience, generate accurate search results, and are useful in other ways, however, most are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and are useless to regular users.

How did LivePDFSearch install on my computer?

Unwanted downloads and installations often occur when developers distribute PUAs by integrating them into the download/installation setups of other programs as "extra offers". This distribution method is known as "bundling". The offers can be declined in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of the setups (or by unticking certain checkboxes).

Many users fail to check and change these settings (or untick the checkboxes), thereby allowing PUAs to infiltrate together with the desired software. PUAs are also downloaded and installed by clicking deceptive advertisements (usually on untrusted sites) that execute certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

You are advised to research all software before download/installation or purchase. All downloads must be done from official and verified sources, since dubious channels such as unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders commonly offer deceptive or bundled content.

When downloading/installing, read the terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of supplementary apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive ads may seem normal and harmless, however, they can redirect to various dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and many others).

If you encounter ads or redirects of this kind, inspect the system and remove any suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately.

If your computer is already infected with LivePDFSearch, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
