mylucky Tab browser hijacker removal instructions
What is mylucky Tab?
Browser hijacker is a type of app that changes browser settings without user's permission, usually it changes them to an address of some fake search engine. This particular app promotes the tailsearch.com address. Also, it collects browsing history, however, it is likely that it gathers other data as well. It is not common for browser hijackers to be installed (or even downloaded) by users intentionally, therefore, they are called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Usually browser hijackers modify settings such as the address of a default search engine, homepage and new tab - they change them to an address of some fake search engine. Although, it is known that mylucky Tab does not always modify browser settings. In some cases it opens tailsearch.com only when users enter search queries into URL bar. In one way or another, tailsearch.com redirects users to google.com or bing.com (via my-search.com and search-checker.com. In other words, this fake search engine displays results generated either by Google or Bing. It is worthwhile to mention that in most cases the only way to stop a hijacked browser from opening a certain address is to uninstall a browser hijacker.
Although, it is not the only reason not to have any browser hijacker installed on a browser and/or the operating system. An app of this type can be designed to function as information tracking tool that collects data related to user's browsing habits. For example, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, IP addresses and other data. Moreover, it can be designed to gather sensitive details as well. What is worse, collected data could be sold to third parties (potentially some cyber criminals) or monetized in some other ways. It means that users could encounter problems related to online privacy, browsing safety, or even become victims of identity theft.

There are many examples of browser hijackers, a couple of them are Funcy Web and Stream Tube. Typically, it is common that such apps are advertised as useful but in reality they are useless to their users and designed only to generate revenue for their developers. As mentioned in the first paragraph, it is common that users download and install apps of this type unknowingly.
How did mylucky Tab install on my computer?
Some users cause unwanted downloads and/or installations by clicking deceptive ads that are designed to run certain scripts. However, it is more common that they cause it when they do not decline unwanted offers when they download and/or install some other software. Quite often PUAs to be included in download and/or installation setups as additional offers, such offers can be declined via "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings, or by unticking certain checkboxes. This distribution method fro PUAs is known as "bundling".
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download and/or installation setups that have "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual", or other settings should be checked for offers to download and/or install unwanted apps. Software (and files) should be downloaded only from official pages and via direct links. Other sources, tools like Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites, third party downloaders, installers, etc., should not be used. Advertisements on shady websites should not be clicked as well. Quite often those ads are used to promote untrustworthy websites or even distribute unwanted apps. Unwanted, suspicious extensions, add-ons or plug-ins that are installed on a browser should be removed. Software of this kind that is installed on the operating system should be uninstalled too. If your computer is already infected with mylucky Tab, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
