How to uninstall Fix PC program?

Also Known As: FIx PC potentially unwanted application
Damage level: Medium

What is Fix PC?

Fix PC is advertised as a program that fixes Windows Registry and other problems to improve computer performance. There are many apps like Fix PC on the Internet, and most of them are promoted using questionable ways. For this reason, they are called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).

Fix PC unwanted application

Fix PC in detail

Research shows that with the free Fix PC version, users can scan their computers for issues with ActiveX, help files, shared DLLs, and other problems. However, this program does not fix any detected problems unless users register it. In other words, users need to pay for Fix PC to be able to use its features.

It is strongly recommended not to pay money for programs that are distributed or promoted using questionable methods (e.g., via shady websites, fake installers). It is common that those programs run fake scans (generate fake results) to trick users into believing that there are problems with their computers and paying money to fix them.

It is unknown whether Fix PC actually scans the system for issues and finds real problems. However, it is possible that it does not. Another common problem with programs like Fix PC is that their downloaders, installers include offers to download or install browser hijackers, adware, and other potentially unwanted applications.

Usually, browser hijackers are designed to change the address of a default search engine, homepage, and new tab to an address of a fake search engine and prevent users from reverting those changes unless they uninstall those apps. It is important to known that fake search engines can generate misleading search results.

Adware generates pop-up ads, surveys, banners, coupons, or other unwanted ads designed to open suspicious websites or cause unexpected downloads and installations by executing certain scripts. Therefore, it is strongly recommended not to trust advertisements that adware-type apps display (and ads appearing on shady websites).

Both browser hijackers and adware-type apps often function as data collectors designed to gather geolocations, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, IP addresses, and other browsing-related information. It is important to mention that data collected by PUAs could be monetized in one or another way (e.g., it could be sold to third parties).

Potentially unwanted applications in general

To summarize, questionable applications that do not allow to use their features for free should not be paid for. It is common for them to be designed to extract money from their users using deception (e.g., by showing fake detections list). More examples of apps of this kind are Digeus Registry Cleaner, SimplePlayer, and CRaccoon.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

One of the most popular ways to distribute potentially unwanted applications is to bundle them with other programs. In such cases, PUAs can be found in downloaders, installers for other programs as optional offers. Typically, undesired offers can be declined using "Advanced", "Custom" or other settings or by unticking ticked checkboxes.

Users agree to download or install additionally included apps when they leave the previously mentioned settings unchanged. Another deceptive way to distribute unwanted apps is to design deceptive advertisements to execute certain scripts. Those ads cause unwanted downloads, installations when users click them.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Software and files should be downloaded from official pages using direct links. It is not recommended trust files, programs that can be downloaded via Peer-to-Peer networks (like eMule, torrent clients), unofficial websites, third-party downloaders, etc., or installed via third-party installers.

Downloaders and installers that have settings like "Advanced", "Manual, "Custom" should be checked for offers to download or install bundled applications. Unwanted applications should be opted out before a download or installation is finished. Advertisements on unreliable pages should not be clicked as well.

Unwanted, suspicious or unknown extensions, add-ons or plug-ins installed on a browser should be remove. Software of this kind installed on the operating system should be removed too. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
