Track-app[.]fun website in detail

There are at least two variants of the track-app[.]fun website. The second track-app[.]fun variant offers to continue watching some video in safe mode with the app called VPN Pro Anonymity & Security. Both track-app[.]fun cannot be trusted - they could be used to trick visitors into installing adware, browser hijackers, or other unwanted applications.

Websites like track-app[.]fun in general

Track-app[.]fun and similar websites are designed to trick visitors into installing potentially unwanted applications. They rarely are visited by users on purpose. More examples of websites using scare tactics to promote software are "Malware detected! iPhone need to be repaired" and "MALWARE DETECTED Action Required".

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

A large percentage of potentially unwanted applications are distributed through downloaders and installers for other programs. Users can find those PUAs in "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other similar options of those downloaders and installers. They agree to download or install PUAs by leaving default settings unchanged.

A smaller part of PUAs are distributed through advertisements that can run certain scripts and fake installers. Users download or install PUAs through ads by clicking on them. It is important to know that fake installers can be malicious/designed to install malware.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Third-party downloaders and installers, Peer-to-Peer networks, questionable pages, etc., should not be trusted. Files and apps should be downloaded from legitimate pages and via direct links. Downloaders and installers with ticked checkboxes or settings like "Custom", "Advanced" should be checked for optional applications.

Advertisements displayed on dubious websites should not be clicked - by clicking those ads, users open other shady pages or download (or install) unwanted apps. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
