Removal instructions for AdvancedProduct adware and the adverts it delivers
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is AdvancedProduct?
While checking out new submissions to VirusTotal, our researchers discovered the AdvancedProduct rogue application. It operates as advertising-supported software (adware). This app displays advertisements and may have additional undesirable functionalities. Additionally, it is noteworthy that AdvancedProduct belongs to the AdLoad malware family.
AdvancedProduct adware overview
Adware is designed to run intrusive advertisement campaigns, i.e., display advertisements on visited websites and/or other interfaces. These ads endorse online scams, unreliable/harmful software, and malware. Some intrusive advertisements can even perform stealthy downloads/installations – upon being clicked.
It is pertinent to mention that any legitimate content encountered through these adverts is most likely promoted by scammers abusing its affiliate programs in order to acquire fraudulent commissions.
Advertising-supported software might not display ads if the browser/system is incompatible, specific sites are not visited, or other conditions are unsuitable. Even if AdvancedProduct does not display advertisements – its presence on a system endangers device and user safety.
AdLoad adware often has browser hijacker abilities, although we did not observe any while testing the AdvancedProduct app.
Furthermore, this rogue application likely collects private data. Information of interest may include: visited URLs, viewed pages, searched queries, account log-in credentials, personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, and so forth. The gathered data can be shared with and/or sold to third-parties.
In summary, the presence of software like AdvancedProduct on devices can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware examples
We have inspected thousands of adware-type applications; GlossGlamor, LifeProxy, WebAge, StyleLab – are merely some examples of our latest finds.
Advertising-supported software typically appears ordinary and harmless. Users are lured into download/installation with promises of "useful" functionalities. However, these features seldom work as promised, and in most cases – they do not work at all.
How did AdvancedProduct install on my computer?
"Bundling" – packing regular program installers with unwanted/malicious supplements – is used to proliferate adware. Downloading from dubious channels (e.g., freeware and free file-hosting sites, P2P sharing networks, etc.) and rushing through installations (e.g., using "Easy/Quick" settings, etc.) – increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the device.
Additionally, fake Adobe Flash Player updaters/installers are used in distribution. Intrusive advertisements proliferate adware as well. Once clicked on, some of these ads can execute scripts to make downloads/installations without user consent.
Advertising-supported software can also have "official" promotional pages, and it is pushed via scam sites. Most users enter such webpages through redirects caused by websites using rogue advertising networks, spam browser notifications, mistyped URLs, intrusive adverts, or installed adware (with browser force-opening abilities).
How to avoid installation of adware?
We strongly recommend researching software and downloading only from official/verified channels. Installation must be treated with caution, e.g., by reading terms, studying available options, using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings, and opting-out of additional apps, extensions, etc.
We advise being careful when browsing since fraudulent and malicious content typically appears legitimate. For example, intrusive ads may look innocuous yet redirect to highly questionable sites (e.g., adult-dating, pornography, gambling, etc.).
In case of encounters with such advertisements and/or redirects, check the device and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with AdvancedProduct, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
