Tomp3[.]cc overview

Rogue advertising networks endorse sites by either force-opening them the moment a webpage that uses them is accessed or by causing redirects when hosted content is interacted with (e.g., clicking buttons, links, text input fields, ads, etc.).

These questionable networks commonly promote various scams, such as phishing (e.g., "Ledger Data Damage Error: 0x0m3Ck8n", "ShibaInu AirDrop", etc.), lottery/survey (e.g., "Apple iPhone 14 Winner", "TESCO Loyalty Program", etc.), cryptocurrency giveaways (e.g., "FIFA Crypto Giveaway", "MicroStrategy Crypto Giveaway", etc.), virus/ potential threat detection (e.g., "Your NordVPN AntiVirus License Has Expired!", "Avira Security", etc.), technical support (e.g., "Windows Firewall Protection Alert", "1978 Act Of Protection Of Children", etc.), and others.

Unreliable and harmful software is also pushed in this manner, e.g., adware, browser hijackers, fake anti-viruses, PUAs, etc. In some instances, rogue advertising networks can even promote malicious sites that proliferate trojans, ransomware, cryptominers, and other malware.

It must be mentioned that while legitimate services and products can be encountered through these advertising networks, they are likely promoted by scammers abusing their affiliate programs to fraudulently obtain commissions.

At the time of research, tomp3[.]cc also requested its browser notification delivery to be enabled. If allowed, the site will spam users with notifications/ads that push likewise deceptive and malicious content.

To summarize, by using a website like tomp3[.]cc – users may experience system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft.

Similar website examples

We have analyzed countless sites that employ rogue advertising networks; onlymp3[.]tomp3-convert[.]org, 10downloader[.]com, and snapinsta[.]io are just some examples of YouTube converters.

Using rogue ad networks is a widespread monetization technique – hence, the Web is rife with websites employing it. We strongly advise excising caution while browsing and not using sites that offer illegal or questionable content/services.

What threats does visiting a rogue website pose?

Rogue advertising networks often endorse deceptive and malicious content. They commonly push scams that aim to trick users into performing specific actions. For example, victims can be lured/scared into making monetary transactions, disclosing private data, calling fake support lines, downloading/installing software, purchasing products, subscribing to services, and so on.

These networks also promote unwanted software that may display intrusive ads, cause redirects, push bogus in-app purchases, and/or track browsing activity.

Malware may also be distributed via rogue advertising networks. High-risk infections can lead to decreased system performance or failure, permanent data loss, hardware damage, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft.

How to avoid visiting rogue websites?

Rogue sites are primarily accessed via others using such advertising networks or redirects caused by intrusive advertisements, mistyped URLs, spam browser notifications, and installed adware.

We advise against using websites that offer pirated content or other questionable services (e.g., Torrenting, illegal streaming/downloading, etc.) since these sites usually employ rogue advertising networks.

It is paramount to be vigilant when browsing, as deceptive and malicious online content typically appears legitimate and innocuous. For example, while intrusive adverts may look harmless, they redirect to highly questionable pages (e.g., scam-promoting, adult dating, gambling, pornography, etc.).

We recommend paying attention to URLs and typing them with care. To avoid receiving undesirable browser notifications – do not permit suspicious webpages to deliver them (i.e., do not click "Allow", "Allow Notifications", etc.). Instead, ignore or deny notification requests from such sites (e.g., select "Block", "Block Notifications", etc.).

We also advise downloading only from official/verified sources and treating installation with caution (e.g., reading terms, using "Custom/Advanced" settings, opting out of all supplementary content, etc.) – to prevent bundled/harmful content from infiltrating the system.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
