What kind of application is Volt?
During our examination of the Volt browser extension, we discovered that it is a browser hijacker designed to promote search.volt-tab.com by changing the browser settings. We also learned that search.volt-tab.com is a fake search engine. Users rarely download browser-hijacking apps on purpose.
Volt browser hijacker overview
Once added, the Volt extension takes control of the user's browser settings and replaces the default search engine, homepage, and new tab page with its fake search engine, search.volt-tab.com. This fake search engine appears to function like a legitimate one, but it is designed to display search results from Bing (it redirects users to bing.com).
It is important to note that Volt may generate revenue for its developers by promoting sponsored content and advertisements. Also, search.volt-tab.com may redirect users to websites they did not intend to visit. Additionally, it may track browsing activity, including search queries, visited websites, and personal information.
Volt is not a legitimate browser extension and should be removed if detected. Users can remove it manually from their browser settings or by using anti-malware software.

Browser hijackers often come bundled with freeware or shareware programs and can be accidentally installed by users who do not carefully read the terms and conditions during installation. They can also be distributed through malicious or deceptive websites.
Browser hijackers can also be installed through social engineering tactics, such as pop-up ads that claim the user has won a prize or alerts that warn users of a security threat.
How to avoid installation of browser hijackers?
Be cautious when downloading and installing software. Download software from the official websites of trusted developers and avoid downloading software from third-party download sites. When installing software, be sure to read all of the prompts carefully.
Avoid clicking on links and suspicious advertisements or opening attachments from unknown sources, and use reputable antivirus software to scan the system for malware.
