What is AdvanceMark?
Created by SuperWeb LLC, AdvanceMark is a rogue browser extension, which claims to improve the quality of users' Internet browsing experience by displaying related websites, website trust ratings, enabling coupons and comparison shopping, and adding other functionality. This add-on is optimized for Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox.
Although this plug-in may seem legitimate, users should be aware that it is categorized as adware since it installs on browsers without users' consent via a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of potentially unwanted applications along with the chosen software).
After successful infiltration, AdvanceMark generates various intrusive advertisements, including interstitial, transitional, text link, banner, search, and full-page ads.
Furthermore, this browser extension tracks various hardware and software information including, for example, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, browser details, IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, and other similar information. Having AdvanceMark installed on your computer may lead to serious privacy issues, identity theft, or malware infections.
Developers of this plug-in (SuperWeb LLC) have released over one hundred similar browser plugins including, for example, ZoneTrek, SpadeCast, and Search Vortex - these are identical to AdvanceMark. This company intentionally releases identical plugins under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware software.
These browser extensions hold no value for the user - their main purpose is to generate revenue by displaying various intrusive online advertisements.
The majority of current freeware download websites (for example, download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com) use small programs called 'download clients' to monetize their free services. Download clients offer installation of promoted browser add-ons along with the chosen freeware, and thus, users should pay close attention when downloading and installing free software.
Careless download and installation may result in adware or malware infections. To prevent installation of AdvanceMark or any other similar adware, examine each step of the software download process - opt out of installation of promoted applications by clicking the 'decline' button.
When installing downloaded free programs, choose the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal installation of any bundled adware. Internet users who observe "Ads by AdvanceMark", "AdvanceMark Deals", or "Powered by AdvanceMark" advertisements when browsing the Internet, should follow this removal guide to dispose of these potentially unwanted browser extensions.
