Melondrea Virus removal instructions
What is Melondrea?
The Molondrea browser extension claims to enhance users' Internet browsing experience by suggesting related content, displaying website trust ratings, enabling coupons and comparison shopping, and other similar functions. The developers (SuperWeb LLC) optimize this add-on for Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Although Melondrea may seem legitimate, be aware that it is considered to be adware since it uses a deceptive marketing method called 'bundling' and installs on browsers without users' consent. Following infiltration, Molondrea generates various intrusive advertisements, including interstitial, transitional, banner, text link, search, and full page ads.
The add-on also tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording various information such as IP addresses, browser details, URLs visited, search queries, pages viewed, unique identifier numbers, and other software and hardware information. Having this type of adware installed on your system may lead to serious privacy issues or malware infections. SuperWeb LLC has released over one hundred rogue browser add-ons identical to Melondrea. Examples include Enhancetronic, Mokiray, and Zonetrek - all are useless to the user. The developers of this plug-in release identical browser extensions under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus software. The purpose of these browser extensions is to generate revenue from the display of intrusive online advertisements.
Internet users should be aware that most current freeware download websites (such as softonic.com, soft32.com, download.com, and many others) employ 'download clients' to monetize their free services. Download clients encourage users to install advertised browser plug-ins along with the chosen software, and therefore, users should pay close attention when downloading and installing freeware. Careless installation of Molondrea, or any other potentially unwanted application, may result in malware infections. For this reason, Internet users should inspect each step during the download of free software and decline installation of these plug-ins. When installing downloaded software, choose the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Regular' or 'Quick' - this will enable you to prevent installation of bundled adware. Users who have already installed the Melondrea browser extension should follow this removal guide to eliminate it from their Internet browser/s.
