FTDownloader removal instructions
What is FTDownloader?
FTDownloader is a potentially unwanted application developed by Tanja Matkovic. The application claims to enhance users' Internet browsing experience by allowing file download from the Internet by up to five times faster. Whilst such added functionality may seem legitimate, FTDownloader is categorized as adware since it installs on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox) without users' consent using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Commonly, users install this plug-in inadvertently with free software downloaded from the Internet.
After successful infiltration, this add-on tracks users' Internet surfing activity by recording IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, operating systems, browsers, installed software information, web page URLs visited, and search queries entered. This tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft. Furthermore, the FTDownloader plug-in generates intrusive ads (for example "Ads by FTDownloader"), including banner ads, in-text ads, and interstitial advertisements - this behavior can lead to malware and virus infections. Computer users should be aware that downloading videos from online video sharing websites is in most cases illegal and considered an infringement of copyright law.
FTDownloader is similar to other adware, which infiltrate users' Internet browsers through free software downloads. Examples include PowerfulBrowse, gboxapp, and Boost. These browser extensions add no significant value and cause intrusive ads when surfing the Internet. To avoid installation of FTDownloader, or other potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), computer users should express caution when downloading and installing freeware. Today, most free software download websites employ 'download clients' - small programs offering installation of advertised browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless freeware downloading can result in adware infections. If your download is managed by a download client, opt-out of installation of advertised browser plug-ins by clicking the 'decline' button. Internet users who have already installed this adware and observe "Ads by FTDownloader" when surfing the Internet, should use the removal guide provided to eliminate this potentially unwanted application from their Internet browsers.
