What is loffinam?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, the Loffinam rogue browser extension claims to enhance users' online shopping experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and adding other useful functionality. Although Loffinam may seem a legitimate browser plug-in, be aware that it is considered to be a potentially unwanted application or adware.
The browser extension employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen software) to install on browsers without users' consent.
Following successful installation on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, Loffinam generates various intrusive online advertisements including transitional, interstitial, banner, pop-up, and full page ads.
In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored since this rogue browser add-on records various software and hardware information including search queries entered, URLs visited, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, and other similar information.
This behavior may lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft. The developers of this potentially unwanted application (SuperWeb LLC) have released over one hundred rogue browser extensions identical to Loffinam (for example, PowerfulBrowse, Webget, AtuZi, and Karatoh).
SuperWeb LLC releases identical browser extensions under different names with the intention to avoid detection by legitimate anti-virus or anti-spyware programs. Neither Loffinam, nor any other of these browser plug-ins adds any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements.
Most adware such as Loffinam is distributed via small programs called 'download clients' within freeware download websites (for example, download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, and many others). Download clients are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of promoted 'legitimate' browser extensions together with the chosen free software.
Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware risks computer infection with adware or malware. This situation can be prevented by closely inspecting each step of the freeware download process and clicking the 'Decline' button when installation of additional applications is offered.
When installing downloaded software, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal any bundled applications and allow you to remove them from the installation list. If you have already installed Loffinam and observe "Ads by Loffinam", "Powered by Loffinam", and "Loffinam Deals" advertisements while surfing the Internet, follow this removal guide to eliminate Loffinam from your Internet browsers.
