Speederu removal instructions
What is Speederu?
Developed by Virtue Interactive Ltd, Speederu is a rogue application claiming to enhance connection speeds for Internet users. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that Speederu is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program. These associations are made due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) employed by Speederu to install on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' consent. After successful infiltration, Speederu generates intrusive online advertisements and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
Advertisements generated by Speederu include (but are not limited to) display, pop-up, banner, and pop-under ads. There is a high probability that clicking advertisements generated by Speederu will cause high-risk adware or malware infections. Furthermore, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since this adware collects various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, cookies, web beacons, and other data. This behavior can result in serious privacy issues or identity theft. There are many PUPs similar to Speederu including, for example, speedcheckme, rapidup, speedapp, and ineedspeed. Neither Speederu, nor any of these other applications, provide any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected information with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to eliminate Speederu from your system.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, etc. Download managers are used to monetize these websites' traffic and free services by offering installation of promoted (according to the developers, '100% legitimate and virus-free') browser add-ons together with the chosen software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware risks system infection with adware or malware. To prevent installation of Speederu, or other similar PUPs, pay close attention during download of free software and click 'Decline' whenever installation of any additional programs is offered. Furthermore, if you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Typical' or 'Regular' - this will reveal all hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If your system is infected with Speederu, read the removal instructions provided and uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
