What is Webfuii?
Created by SuperWeb LLC, Webfuii is a rogue browser extension claiming to improve the Internet browsing experience by enabling comparison shopping, coupons, and other similar features. While this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that Webfuii is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The developers of this rogue application employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen software) to install Webfuii on Internet browsers without users' consent.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, Webfuii displays intrusive online ads and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
Advertisements generated by this dubious application include (but are not limited to) pop-up, search, banner, transitional, interstitial, and full-page ads. Clicking advertisements displayed by Webfuii may lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, this PUP continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable.
For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine users' geographic locations), unique identifier numbers, website URLs visited, search queries entered into search engines, pages viewed, and other similar data. This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
None of these applications are useful for the user - this company intentionally releases identical browser extensions under different names to prevent detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites.
The purpose of these PUPs is to generate revenue by the display of the intrusive online and sharing collected data with third parties, and for these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall Webfuii.
Close examination of Webfuii reveals that it is mostly distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, and soft32.com.
Download clients are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of promoted (according to the developers, '100% legitimate') browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
To avoid installation of adware such as Webfuii, pay close attention during download of free software and never accept installation of any additional programs offered.
In addition, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
If you have installed Webfuii, and you experience 'Ads by Webfuii', 'Webfuii Deals', or 'Powered by Webfuii' advertisements when surfing the Internet, follow the removal guide provided to uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
