What is LuckyTab?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, LuckyTab is a dubious browser plug-in claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other similar features. On initial inspection, this functionality may seem legitimate, however, be aware that LuckyTab is considered to be adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The creators of LuckyTab employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install LuckyTab on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, LuckyTab delivers intrusive online advertisements such as search, interstitial, pop-up, transitional, full-page, and banner ads. It is highly probable that clicking advertisements generated by LuckyTab will cause further high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, this PUP monitors users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various software and hardware information that may be personally identifiable. For example: search queries entered into search engines, website URLs visited pages viewed, unique identifier numbers, IP addresses (to determine users' geographic locations), and other details.
This information tracking may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Be aware that SuperWeb LLC has released several hundred rogue applications identical to LuckyTab. ZoomCheck, Webfuii, and RightSurf are just some examples among many others.
None of the applications created by this developer provide any significant value for the user. This company intentionally releases identical browser plug-ins under different names with the intention of preventing detection by legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware software.
The purpose of these PUPs is to generate revenue by sharing collected data with third parties and displaying intrusive online ads. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall LuckyTab from your Internet browsers.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small download programs (called 'download managers', 'installers', and 'download clients') on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, and soft32.com.
Download programs are used by these websites as free services and traffic monetization tools, since they offer installation of advertised (according to the developers, '100% legitimate and virus-free') browser add-ons together with the chosen software. Thus, careless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
To avoid installation of LuckyTab, or other similar adware, be attentive during download of free software and never accept installation of any additional programs offered.
Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have installed LuckyTab, and you see 'Ads by LuckyTab', 'Powered by LuckyTab', or 'LuckyTab Deals' advertisements when surfing the Internet, follow the instructions below to uninstall this PUP from your Internet browsers.
