Square Corner removal instructions
What is Square Corner?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Square Corner is a dubious browser plug-in claiming to improve the Internet browsing experience by enabling various features including coupons and comparison shopping. While some users may find this functionality legitimate and useful, Square Corner is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware, since it is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. This method allows developers to stealthily install Square Corner on Internet browsers during installation of other software. After Square Corner infiltrates Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox without users' consent, it displays a number of intrusive online advertisement types such as banner, pop-up, interstitial, transitional, full-page, search, and so on. These generated ads can redirect to bogus websites containing infectious content, thus, clicking them risks high-risk adware or malware infection.
Square Corner collects a wide range of Internet browsing-related information that might contain personally identifiable details. For instance, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, and search queries entered. This information holds your Internet browsing activity - cyber criminals may use this information for dubious purposes such as sharing it with third parties, and thereby, potentially causing serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Square Corner is one of several hundred PUPs developed by SuperWeb LLC. The developers of this PUP release identical browser plug-ins under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites. All of these plug-ins claim to improve the Internet browsing experience, however, none provide any real value. The purpose of Square Corner, and other identical extensions, is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to uninstall this PUP from your system immediately.
Most adware-type applications are distributed on freeware download websites such as downloads.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com. These websites employ small 'download programs' (also called 'installers', 'download clients', 'download managers', 'download tools', etc.) to monetize their traffic and free services by encouraging installation of additional applications with the chosen software. Download websites claim to provide the latest '100% legitimate and virus-free' applications, however, most are adware or malware. To avoid this type of computer infection, closely analyse each step of the free software download procedure and ensure that only the chosen app is included for download. Furthermore, downloaded programs should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal any third party applications listed for installation and enable you to cancel them. If you have installed Square Corner, read the removal guide provided and uninstall this PUP from your system.
