Opti-page.com redirect removal instructions
What is Opti Page?
Opti Page is identical to previous variants including Boxo Search and Bit Search. The developers (Babylon Ltd) present Opti Page as a legitimate app that improves the Internet browsing experience by enabling advanced Internet searching - "Opti Page aims to provide the ultimate online search experience. Our advanced technology provides you with the best of what the web has to offer, and makes it easier than ever to find exactly what you are searching for." Some users may consider this application to be legitimate and useful, however, Opti Page is categorized as a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). After stealth system infiltration, Opti Page modifies Internet browsers settings, causes unwanted browser redirects, and tracks user information.
We do not collect personal identification information including names, phone numbers and addresses. Users might be asked to add their email address to get information about Babylon Software and other special offers from Babylon Ltd. We do collect information necessary to enable certain features in the Toolbar Platform. We do not sell, rent or trade any personally identifiable information you provide when using the Toolbar, Search Software or the Web Sites.
Opti Page is similar to hundreds of other browser hijackers that may also seem legitimate. Be aware that bogus applications such as goinf.ru, websearchy.com, and mycouponsxp.com only claim to be virus-free - they promise various useful features only to encourage users to install. Rather than providing these features, however, browser hijackers cause unwanted browser redirects, display ads, and collect personally identifiable information. This is solely to generate revenue for the developers.
How did Opti Page install on my computer?
Opti Page is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software. Since many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software, this method is extremely effective. Users often skip most of the download/installation steps, including the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings (where bogus applications such as Opti Page are usually hidden), thereby exposing the system to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two steps you should take to avoid installation of applications such as Opti Page. Firstly, select the direct download link when downloading from a freeware download website. If this option is not available, and you are forced to use a download manager, closely inspect each step of the procedure and opt-out of any third party software included. Secondly, applications should be installed with the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any concealed software listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.

A browser hijacker is a type of adware infection that modifies Internet browser settings by assigning the homepage and default Internet search engine settings to some other (unwanted) website URL. Commonly, this type of adware infiltrates operating systems through free software downloads. If your download is managed by a download client, ensure that you decline offers to install advertised toolbars or applications that seek to change your homepage and default Internet search engine settings.
